Yes, there are a couple of other good authors here, however you're like one of the old buddies at a BBS User Group, that popped in with some new tip, or fix for a program on an old 5 1/4 floppy and shared it with the rest, and that is the difference.

I subscribed to PC World because you worked there.
I have learned more from your Yahoo Groups like "Broadband" than any other web resource.
You have taken the time to help me personally with issues that no tech support person could fathom, and I thank you for that.
I have given copies of your book to all my relatives, which has helped them immensely and cut down on my midnight "I deleted my desktop..what do I do?" phone calls and my wife and I both thank you for that.
We can't fathom why the management at PCW would want to lose the quality workers like yourself that have made it a "Must Read" for years...but they have made their decisions and we have made ours.
PCW is no longer a "Must Read" in our household.
I know a very large group of people agree with me and will be following you in your new venture.
Your character and hard work will ensure your success.
Best Regards for the future,
Jeff Crawford

I have so often relied on your easy-going advice and instructions (are you sure you're not my brother?) to pull me through a tech problem that was just driving me nutso! Your humorous comments sprinkled throughout had me hooked from the beginning and made PCW a fun and informative read.
So be it... prop the door open wide because a whole lot of my friends and I are coming in. See you there!

Please do not send me 457 mailings regarding continuing my subscription, because I decided to cancel when I heard that Steve Bass received the axe.
What you probably don't understand is that Steve was the 1 guy that put a human face on discussions about PCs and technology. To me he was the cool, smart Uncle I never met but would teach me something new each time I read his letters...and each time I would get another glimpse of who he was.
Steve's love of life, technology, and writing made his columns a true joy to read.

I understand how you feel and don't blame you for wanting to move away from PCW.
At the same time, online has some valuable articles that I wouldn't want you to miss. One good example: Lincoln Spector did a marvelous piece -- "How to Calibrate Your HDTV." Ditto for "How to Buy a Flat-Screen HDTV." (links below.)
www.pcworld.com/article/148462/how[uto[/u]calibrateyourhdtv.html]
(Actually, I planned to do a newsletter on it, but, well, stuff happens.)
Either way, you know where to find me ( [http://www.techbite.com] ). In the meantime, keep poking around PCW's site; I know you'll still find good stuff here.
