You can have the best of both, [~6034] . Stick around here for some of the remaining good columnists (Lincoln, Scott, Stu). And spend some time with me at www.techbite.com/.

Thank you for replying. I do mean it, your intelligence shown brightly though the eloquence of your word craft. You are one of the few writers I always looked forward to reading.

I don't mind Ad's that offer something new or worthwhile Steve. Reminds me of Neon Signs in NY, that beckon you to come in to try something new. Now of course I will have to start a new email folder of your saved Tips & Tweaks at your new location. You should see the old folder. :)

Yes, there are a couple of other good authors here, however you're like one of the old buddies at a BBS User Group, that popped in with some new tip, or fix for a program on an old 5 1/4 floppy and shared it with the rest, and that is the difference.

Steve,

I subscribed to PC World because you worked there.

I have learned more from your Yahoo Groups like "Broadband" than any other web resource.

You have taken the time to help me personally with issues that no tech support person could fathom, and I thank you for that.

I have given copies of your book to all my relatives, which has helped them immensely and cut down on my midnight "I deleted my desktop..what do I do?" phone calls and my wife and I both thank you for that.

We can't fathom why the management at PCW would want to lose the quality workers like yourself that have made it a "Must Read" for years...but they have made their decisions and we have made ours.

PCW is no longer a "Must Read" in our household.

I know a very large group of people agree with me and will be following you in your new venture.

Your character and hard work will ensure your success.

Best Regards for the future,

Jeff Crawford

Wow, Steve, after all this time at PCW I can hardly believe you're gone. Well, I guess I am too then, since your input was why I signed up in the first place. TechBite will take it's place in my inbox.

I have so often relied on your easy-going advice and instructions (are you sure you're not my brother?) to pull me through a tech problem that was just driving me nutso! Your humorous comments sprinkled throughout had me hooked from the beginning and made PCW a fun and informative read.

So be it... prop the door open wide because a whole lot of my friends and I are coming in. See you there!

Over the past few years, I have 'pared down' the columns that I receive from PC World magazine because of the changes that they have arbitrarily made. I continued on with yours even after having to 'link-up' with that teaser. That was insulting to me, the reader, that they think I couldn't navigate to their other areas of the site myself. I have already signed up for your new email newsletter, and now, I guess it is time once again, to 'pare-down' the rest of the PC World missives.

Steve Bass had become the only credible columnist at PCW and the only reason I renewed my subscription each year. Truly a bad move by PCW and entirely their loss. The fan base now moves......

It is really a shame to learn you will no longer be with PC World. You have had so much to share and teach that I feel it will be more a loss for this magazine than for yourself. I am sure this will mean new great opportunities for you. Best wishes and good luck!

Steve,
You're the best. I'll see you over at TechBite.com for more of your tech insights, new products and time wasters!
Not sure I'll be coming back to PCWorld any more......
All the best

Dear PCW,
Please do not send me 457 mailings regarding continuing my subscription, because I decided to cancel when I heard that Steve Bass received the axe.
What you probably don't understand is that Steve was the 1 guy that put a human face on discussions about PCs and technology. To me he was the cool, smart Uncle I never met but would teach me something new each time I read his letters...and each time I would get another glimpse of who he was.
Steve's love of life, technology, and writing made his columns a true joy to read.

Well, there certainly isn't any reason to purchase PCWORLD anymore...they have lost their best writer. Even at their "give-away" price of $1 an issue there is not enough substantial content to subscribe or pay the $7 at the news stand...

Steve, the computer community will miss your monthly articles, filled with wisdom, knowledge, and sprinkled with humor...

Good luck to you on any future endeavors.

Steve you will be greatly missed. PC World is an excellent magazine which I've subscribed to for years. I hate to think this great magazine is beginning to cut editorial corners to bolster their bottom line yet letting excellent tech-journalists like you go after 20 years is a major shortcoming.

I do respect PCW for at least letting us know that we can find you at TechBite.com. This jesture kept me from having desires to cancel my subscription.

Keep up the great work.

Jim

PC World is crazy! Don't they have a clue how many people read their content because of Steve Bass? As one of probably 100's if not 1000's of original PIBMUG members (Pasadena IBM User Group - for PC World manager neophytes), I've been a Bass follower for about 20 years. I can always depend on Bass for straight facts and honest information. And with his history with technology, his contact base allows him to get information other tech writers can't duplicate. How many other PC World writers have that kind of insight and consistent reputation and for as many years as Bass? Yeh, that's what I thought. Looking forward to TechBite.

Jeff,
I understand how you feel and don't blame you for wanting to move away from PCW.
At the same time, online has some valuable articles that I wouldn't want you to miss. One good example: Lincoln Spector did a marvelous piece -- "How to Calibrate Your HDTV." Ditto for "How to Buy a Flat-Screen HDTV." (links below.)

www.pcworld.com/article/148462/how[uto[/u]calibrateyourhdtv.html]

(Actually, I planned to do a newsletter on it, but, well, stuff happens.)

Either way, you know where to find me ( [http://www.techbite.com] ). In the meantime, keep poking around PCW's site; I know you'll still find good stuff here.

I never liked that linking business either, Tom. I felt like I lost the close connection to readers I built over the 20 years I was at PCW. Drop by my other spot and see if you like what I'm doing with it. --Steve
