Best of luck in your new endeavor. I've a feeling you and the veteran staff that has "moved on to other things" may have more success than PCW. Odd decision, and I guess the bottom-line is king nowadays, but stripping the best editorial talent in the industry doesn't seem the way to compete. I've nothing against the incoming staff, but for print subscribers, this is a bit of bait-and-switch. The product certainly will be different than what was expected. Juries out onthat, but niot on you and many others who were the voices of trust, reason, expertise and an experienced viewpoint that will be sorely missed. I'm looking forward to TechBite newletters. I'm not sure if PCW newsletters have anything left of value.
You'll be missed, and possibly OPCW will miss their subscribers.
Regards,
Tom Farkas

Like many of the posters I have been a loyal fan of your work for years, have followed your relocations throughout the magazine and will continue to follow wherever you go. I thank you for the education you've given me and the countless hours of joy from your "Dig This" items.

P.S. If you get a chance, tell your buddies, your UPS driver, and maybe even your brother-in-law (if you're still talking to him) about my new newsletter.

You can reach me -- and sign up for my free (and advertising free) newsletter at TechBite. And get this: You'll get the whole newsletter in your inbox, not just a teaser with a link. [ www.techbite.com/ ]

I am sorry to (for PC World) to see you go. I have enjoyed your contributions to this once great publication. I always turned to yours and the other Steve's (M) pages before reading the rest.

Absolutely bummed about this news. I am a fan and will continue with you. Thanks for lining up a forwarding address and pursuit for your loyal fan base.
Sincerely, Ellen Hall
Below is a copy of my note to PC World President and CEO Mike Kisseberth and PC World Editor-in-Chief Steve Fox:
Subject: Very disappointed about Steve Bass decision.
Mr. Kisseberth and Mr. Fox,
I have been a continuous PC World subscriber for many years (not my true name in the email address). (I finally recycled the pre-Windows 98 issues.)
I look forward to each issue and devour most of the columns/articles in the first day or so. I've had this relationship with your contributing writers for so long that it never occurred to me that anything would change. I wish I had known that Steve's position was in jeopardy. I would have written to you pleading for you to reconsider. I am quite blown away that this has happened and am sorry for taking things for granted. I have saved every Tip and Tweak and article for many years and go back to them often. Steve Bass is one of my absolute favorites.
Steve's passion and joy of sharing his experiences has been a high point for me each issue. What I haven't tried, I've tucked away for future times of PC fun. I'm renewed through 2010 but this loss has me questioning extending my subscription. I have never considered dropping the magazine before. I just don't understand what your organization was thinking -- what you possibly hoped to gain by letting Steve Bass go!
Of course I can/will follow him to his next pursuit. What feels lousy is my whole "relationship" with my favorite magazine has suffered a blow. It surprises me how personal this all feels.
PLEASE announce loudly if you consider and succeed in winning him back. I very much want to be informed. It would make renewing my subscription a more clear decision.
Thank you for your time,
Ellen Hall

Your comment -- "What feels lousy is my whole "relationship" with my favorite magazine has suffered a blow. It surprises me how personal this all feels." Is very touching -- and strikes a chord with me. That's because beyond having lots a job, having lost touch with so many of my PC World readers is painful. --Steve
