In theory, support for ODF should be a good thing.

In practice, ODF support will just narrow the points of differentation between Office 07 and OOo. They do much the same things, and many are using the collaborative features of Google Docs for one of the key things lacking in OOo. Let's be realistic, MS are doing this because they are losing business by not having the patent- unencumbered and open file format system now increasingly being mandated around the world.

There is a conspiracy theory around that MS will (deliberately) do a bad implementation of ODF so that they can point to client dissatisfaction with it. This is really just the latest variation of 'embrace and extinguishment'. There is a big incentive for them to try this, as vendor lockin has been a major part of their business success. The theory has some substance if you llok at how MS employees are being stacked inot the committee that is now overseeing the development and maintenance of ODF.
