Windows 7 Beta on Hold Until 2009

What in the world are you talking about?
"now"? That's when Microsoft said the beta would arrive back at PDC! The "Windows 7 Beta for Christmas this year" was only a rumor. Microsoft NEVER SAID THAT.
"the initial PDC build was woefully inadequate and demonstrated none of the claimed improvements in performance or resource consumption."
This is completely untrue and unfair.
In his hands-on review of Windows 7 build 6801, Stephen at uxevangelist.net said this:
"there is one very important notable point I'd like to make: Performance on Windows 7 is much better than both XP and Vista. Tasks I normally perform (and have for years) seem to use considerably less power than on either OS prior, because my fans kick on much less than they do on XP and Vista. I actually copied the build for a co-worker of mine who installed the build and made the exact same discovery."
In Steven Sinofsky's presentation of Windows 7 at PDC, he said that after the feature complete beta comes out, they'll work on eliminating bugs and improving performance.
So many of the performance tweaks and bug fixes haven't been completed yet. What do you expect? It's a PRE-BETA!
When you use an alpha version of Ubuntu, do you complain about bugs and incomplete features in it? No! It's what you expect in pre-release software.
So please stop complaining that the Windows 7 pre-beta is unfinished.

Stop your hating, get off the soap box, find what is really wrong, and tell how they can fix it, other then simply whining like PC world is obsessed with doing.

Maybe you should check your sources before you decide you hate the PDC build; most people seem to think it's a great improvement.

Rid the bloat, rid the OS of the DRM, make it modular, they will have success.
People just want something that works, and that they do not have to upgrade all of their current peripherals or software. Utilities is a given. Why does Server 2008 work so well? Or is that less exposed?

The computer industry is a very complicated field with information changing daily, even hourly. Do you really think you alone provoked the largest software corporation in the world to change their biggest offering?
You need a shrink.

1. MS didn't postpone anything because of the author. To claim as such is absurd.
2. The PDC build was an OLDER ALPHA. Of course it didn't contain all the "good bits". Even those of us that attended KNEW THAT. Either way, that means nothing to stability of Windows 7. Just more crying from someone that wants more then what he's got.
"or was it the other way around?"
Glad to know you report based on a weak memory and not actual facts.
"Paul should know"
And if you had an actual brain you would know he's NDA'ed. He can't comment on anything unreleased so his comments are strictly based on the pre beta build. For those that KNOW, there is more coming. You could also look at his comment from the point of view of Beta 1. In that case, he's right. As of Beta 1 (the REAL Beta 1) Windows 7 will be feature complete. For the most part. You got a problem with that?
One clear example of that would be WARP. Which is NOT in the PDC build handed out to us. Do you bother to mention that here? No, because you're an idiot that can't report for squat!

As much as we decry the stupidity of some of the Infoworld and Computerworld articles and the lack of applicability of the MacWorld articles, they are news worthy none the less. They are posted here for commentary by the members.
Unfortunately I doubt that the author will see any of the well pointed comments about his lack of ability, as I doubt that he will ever find his way to this community discussion. He's probably too busy planning his next attack on Windows 8. The fact that it is not even in the conceptual stage should not hold him back, as obviously his opinion is far more important than any facts could be.

In many forums I have read many have wiped there system an installed it. Dumb move. The Alpha release is not ready to run any software, it is just to give you an idea of what the physical system will look like and showing off some proposed features. It si best tested using a virtual pc like Virtualbox which is a free open source software. You simply choose Windows Vista as the OS you are installing and that works find.
