Did he really say that they want to standardize on a single smartphone OS platform? I find that hard to believe. I heard his presentation to the general audience and while that theme may have been a pie-in-the-sky, wouldn't it be great if... kind of thing, I did not come away with the impression that ATT has any real plans to eliminate, restrict or stop iPhones, Windows Mobile Phones, Blackberries, Nokia phones (unlocked ones since they seem reluctant to sell any subsidized ones), or any other OS-based devices on their network. In fact, he stressed that they want "open access" for specialty vertical devices and other things connecting to their data network.
I guess he must have really opened up in the interview you had with him after the presentation. Either that or your editor over-reached a bit when editing down the headline for this article.
