Nobody hates their customers more than Sony. Nobody.

CNN should really stick to slanting the political news -- They don't have enough facts to misquote techies. They have combined a number of targeted third party statistics and opinions to support a predetermined view.

PCWorld helps by pointing out some directions that prove the opposite. I particularly love CNN's contention that "Noone cares about HD Disks", ignoring the fact that the PS3 console connects to the Internet and the home LAN, making the storage medium irrelevant to a device that outputs 1080P with an HDMI 1.3 connection.

Maybe CNN ought to confine their view of the game console market to the Atari 2600 with the proprietary ROM plug in cartridges.

If you include the PS2 and PSP in this story then you must include the Wii and DS!

If I'd been intending to pull the Wii in, that'd be a totally accurate statement, but since I wasn't, it isn't. The Wii kicked everyone's butt, incidentally. See here for that post.

Not taking sides (ref. this), just pointing out some issues with a slightly misinformed perspective.

Instead of buying a wireless adapter you could have used a broadband cable...or did you not bother to check to see that the 360 has one in the package? Ooops, thats 80 bucks down the drain.

$80 ? I bought a 25' ethernet cable to run from my PS3 to the router for a whole lot less than that. I believe it was less than $25 and works just fine. coastie65

That's exactly what I plan to do. I want a blu-ray player and a media player that will play content from my computer. The fact that I can get both in the PS3 makes it a good value. If I get the right model it'll even play my old PS2 games.

My biggest concern is trusting a device made by Sony with access to my network. They have intentionally infected computers in the past. When will they do it again?

One last note.

You've got to be on crack to say that the PS3 exclusives come even close to comparing with the 360 exclusives.

The most laughable thing is that Sony poured so many resources into the PS3 and they forgot to make a better controller. How are you supposed to play a shooter on those analog sticks?

I am using the Dual Shock 3 Six Axis controller and it works fine for me. Jury is still out on the Motion Sensor thing though. Not to sure if I like it or not.

THE FAQS:
First Nintendo: Cheap console, user friendly,10% good software mostly first party,90% shovelware mostly third party cash-ins, Virtual console nuff said...

Second Sony: Expensive unit,Best Blu-Ray player according to recent benchmark tests, built in support for multiple flash cards, usb ports (4),ps2 and ps1 backward campatability, wifi built in,PSN network (free),decent exclusives, user upgradeable hdd.

Third Microsoft: Moderately priced, netflix downloads,299.00$ unit comes with meager memory, excellent exclusives,RROD enabled,NXE,XBOX LIVE (pay service)

I am in no way biased to the three console makers, and own each one. They all have something different to offer in their own right, so FANBOYS broaden your horizons and try something new or buy a pc...

Hi zeromission and welcome to the forum. There is a correction to your post. The PS3 is "Partially" compatible with the PSone and is Not Backwards compatible with the PS2. The original release of the PS3 in November '06 (20 Gb & 60 Gb) were backwards compatible with both.

Before I ever purchased an XBOX I was a proud PS2 owner that never saw the need to own a MS machine, everything I needed Sony supplied. Until one day I'm picking up my kid from school after care and they we're playing Halo on the huge black brick. Twenty minutes later I made up my mind to buy an XBOX, that's right for just one game. This gen I started with the 360 with every intention of getting a PS3 as soon as a; a killer exclusive game came out that I just had to have or b; the price got to a point where It just was a no brainer. Blu Ray never really excited me to be honest and know I'm seeing players for 200 dollars so thats not as much of a selling point. It's about the games for me and frankly everytime I get hyped about something coming out for the PS3 (could this be the one?) I'm dissapointed for one reason or another. But just as I was ignorant to the Halo love going on with the original XBOX maybe it's the same for a PS3 title that's yet to come. I was so looking forward to Lair but we all know how that bombed, then MGS4 which looked great but didn't sell me on gameplay, FF will be on the 360 so still no need. Now I know many of you will say I'm a 360 fanboy but I've never let popular opinion dictate how I spend my hard earned cash. Sony hasn't convinced me that I can't live without a PS3 yet. In their effort to promote their new format, which worked out succesfully for Blu Ray, they left many potential gamers like me waiting to see all the great Blu Ray games that never materialized and probably never will because development cost for such games. A post earlier said "I think Sony reached too far, too fast" and I tend to agree. By the time PS4 comes out maybe they will have figured out how to win back gamers and hopefully won't load the machine up with tech that's not necessay for a solid game platform ala Wii.

lol

"The PS3 is the cheapest Blu-Ray player to date which includes a gaming system." Compared to..... oh yeah Sony owns the rights to Blu Ray. They won't sell out and give the rights to Microsoft XBox 360 because the Fan Boys will obviously cry.

Also, I haven't seen anyone produce a PC game that utilized Blu Ray so you really can not use it as a comparison since Sony obviously has not opened the doors to it's gaming console competitors.

Sony
- Blu-ray Disc Player with 1080p Output - $249.99

:D Lucky you. I got a busted PS2 and some nearly completed games. I bought a PS3 80 Gb with the mistaken impression that it was backwards compatible with the PS2. Guess I'll have to see if I can get this PS2 up and running again ( works, but the disk doesn't spin ).

FF will be released for both consoles. There is a game I have completed on the PC that will be released for both consoles next fall called The Witcher. It is a fantastic RPG and ought to be interesting in the consoles. They promise to really utilize the full capabilities of the consoles as well. Again it should be interesting. I suspect, it may bring out the RROD's on the Xbox, as it took a pretty decent PC to play the thing.

I agree that the ps3 is now too expensive. But perhaps Sony is smarter than the rest of us in that they are now actually marketing the ps3 towards those higher earners and the gamers who will spend the money on it. Maybe they don't need the same amount of people to buy it as the other game systems to earn the same amount of money. Perhaps they will lower the retail price right after christmas when everyone has gift cards?
Regardless, it is important to note that the ps3 is truly what won the HD home video format war! If you look at a timeline, everything was a domino effect. Blockbuster had a ton of blu ray rentals because it had a ton of game rentals. Blockbuster gave up on HDDVD because of the popularity of blu ray rentals resulting from the gamers renting. This helped the sales figures of blu ray. And it just went on and on!
I must comment though that the weight and bulk of these newer video game systems are getting absurd! I was shocked when I first saw and picked up a ps3! The thing might as well be a full atx computer tower! At least then it would look better! Am I the only one who thinks the ps3 is one of the ugliest video game systems ever?!!!

Actually an ATX mini Tower weighs approx. 21 Lbs. and the PS3 weighs approx. 9.5 Lbs. Big difference. That is approx. $42.10 per lb. :D
