Is Sony's PS3 Really a Sinking Ship?

PCWorld helps by pointing out some directions that prove the opposite. I particularly love CNN's contention that "Noone cares about HD Disks", ignoring the fact that the PS3 console connects to the Internet and the home LAN, making the storage medium irrelevant to a device that outputs 1080P with an HDMI 1.3 connection.
Maybe CNN ought to confine their view of the game console market to the Atari 2600 with the proprietary ROM plug in cartridges.

If I'd been intending to pull the Wii in, that'd be a totally accurate statement, but since I wasn't, it isn't. The Wii kicked everyone's butt, incidentally. See here for that post.
Not taking sides (ref. this), just pointing out some issues with a slightly misinformed perspective.

My biggest concern is trusting a device made by Sony with access to my network. They have intentionally infected computers in the past. When will they do it again?

You've got to be on crack to say that the PS3 exclusives come even close to comparing with the 360 exclusives.
The most laughable thing is that Sony poured so many resources into the PS3 and they forgot to make a better controller. How are you supposed to play a shooter on those analog sticks?

First Nintendo: Cheap console, user friendly,10% good software mostly first party,90% shovelware mostly third party cash-ins, Virtual console nuff said...
Second Sony: Expensive unit,Best Blu-Ray player according to recent benchmark tests, built in support for multiple flash cards, usb ports (4),ps2 and ps1 backward campatability, wifi built in,PSN network (free),decent exclusives, user upgradeable hdd.
Third Microsoft: Moderately priced, netflix downloads,299.00$ unit comes with meager memory, excellent exclusives,RROD enabled,NXE,XBOX LIVE (pay service)
I am in no way biased to the three console makers, and own each one. They all have something different to offer in their own right, so FANBOYS broaden your horizons and try something new or buy a pc...

"The PS3 is the cheapest Blu-Ray player to date which includes a gaming system." Compared to..... oh yeah Sony owns the rights to Blu Ray. They won't sell out and give the rights to Microsoft XBox 360 because the Fan Boys will obviously cry.
Also, I haven't seen anyone produce a PC game that utilized Blu Ray so you really can not use it as a comparison since Sony obviously has not opened the doors to it's gaming console competitors.

Regardless, it is important to note that the ps3 is truly what won the HD home video format war! If you look at a timeline, everything was a domino effect. Blockbuster had a ton of blu ray rentals because it had a ton of game rentals. Blockbuster gave up on HDDVD because of the popularity of blu ray rentals resulting from the gamers renting. This helped the sales figures of blu ray. And it just went on and on!
I must comment though that the weight and bulk of these newer video game systems are getting absurd! I was shocked when I first saw and picked up a ps3! The thing might as well be a full atx computer tower! At least then it would look better! Am I the only one who thinks the ps3 is one of the ugliest video game systems ever?!!!
