Tried Ubuntu once again ... as an alternative to Vista. Unfortunately there are so many issues that it goes way beyond "learning curve". 2 hours to see windows network shares and lots of editing config files. 30 minutes to figure out how to turn on access to user root. Gave up before working on Network Printers not showing up (again windows stuff).

Also won't run Photoshop and for me, a photographer, that's a biggie. Gimp just doesn't cut it.

You can get other programs to run windows programs, wine, crossover etc there are tutorials and stuff on how to get Photoshop working in Ubuntu. I wouldn't be surprised if you poked around and found other stuff that works as well. Just takes some time and configuring. Of course everything won't work it is a different operating system, however more things will work then you might think.

I've played around with a number of distributions over the years.
I'm sure that Ubuntu is a gread distro., but I've had an ongoing set of annoyances setting it up for dual booting.
Invariably the setup process messes up on configuring Grub, and I've had to go in and manually fix the grub boot-up records after the install.
If you google 'ubuntu grub problems' you'll get an idea of the scope of the problem.
I'll stick with openSUSE until Ubuntu figures out how to configure Grub.
