I agree with Mike Elgan at computerworld. Microsoft is sitting on a ton of money and they keep putting out crap hardware like the X-Box 360(I'm on my 3rd one) and brick like Zune players. Hire some real hardware designers and put out slick looking RELIABLE hardware. Come out with a compact touch screen Zune $50 to $100 dollares less than a similar Ipod in various colors and advertise the hell out of it and watch them fly off the shelves.

As for the X-Box 360,hire HP or some other computer maker to manufacture combo game/DVD(or Blueray) players. Why lose money on manufacturing the hardware, let someone with more experience deal with it and licence it to them. There is no excuse for the red ring of death crap.

This article is pretty biased against Microsoft. I've had an xbox 360 for over 2 years, and the only time I have ever seen a red ring was when the video cables weren't fully inserted, and I game on it a lot. Sure many people have seen them and have needed more than one repair, but Microsoft has taken care of it for FREE, so that is excellent customer support, plus I am sure the % of people with red rings is minimal when taking into account the millions of sold xboxes. Ever since the redesign of the Xbox, with the 45nm process, red rings are a thing of the past. As for the Zune, the software and all players are much cooler than iTunes and the iPod. Who is crazy enough to buy an iPod touch with 16GB over a Zune with 120GB, for a LOT less money? Plus, the iPod touch are so common, that they no longer impress anyone. The Zune also does something Apple never has: With every release of a new OS version, you can update even the oldest zunes to the latest version... can you update the first Apple iPod ever in order to have the features of the latest iPod classic?
