This SD development is the next interim step to solid state storage, fixed and mobile and which will supercede DVD technology.

While this is exciting and is what I've been crying out for since HD-DVD died and camcorders started recording on SD cards, I can't help but think these types of kiosk things never really seem to pan out.
The question of data deterioration and longevity always come up with a discussion of using flash memory for a home video format.
Why not be able to outright purchase the movie on a more permanent memory card?
Why not use the flash memory for the recordable version of a new home video chip format?

That raises the interesting question of transient and permanent data storage! For the anticipated short life that this card will enjoy, I don't see a differentiation. It is multipurpose dependant upon the user's requirement. If solid state is where data storage technology is headed, the problem of data deterioration has got to be resolved.

In any event, the microisation of memory media is displacing DVD technology.
