My friend Kevin who has the beta says he's never had any problems with it (although that may mean any problems he can't solve...
Anyway, I think we've established from XP and Vista that it's best to wait a few years before getting a new Windows release.

Thanks for the Win 7 review, Randy. I think I'll stay with XP.

It's a Beta people. Beta means you can count on having problems. The purpose of a Beta is to find out what hardware combinations and program combinations have problems. You are then supposed to report back to the development team so they can fix them before the final RTM version is released.

No one should ever consider replacing a previous version of any software that is used for production or important work with a Beta.

The author was incorrect in his procedure for installing Win7 in the first place. Instead of backing up Vista 64bit and then installing Win7, he should have backed up his drive normally, removed his hard drive, replaced it with a clean one and then done a clean install of Win7. Then when he wanted to go back to Vista all he had to do was swap the drives and he's back in business. After all, a 250GB SATAII notebook drive is only $60-$80 at on line discounters.

look up a thing called Dual Booting. It allows you to keep your current system installed and switch between the two at boot time.

BTW, the new task bar setup is actually the worst thing in Windows 7. It makes a complete mess out of the task bar by mixing your shortcuts to launch programs in with the launched programs, so you can't easily find your "quick launch" buttons because they get moved around every time you launch a new program. I restored the real Quick Launch bar and disabled the other thing and couldn't be happier.
