This is all well and good...but here in California, we (subject to the limitations of our Franchise Tax Board) are able to completely work through our tax forms and then file them on line as well as pay any taxes due. No charge at all! If there were no lobbying by the big tax preparation software companies in Washington D.C. perhaps everyone could then fill out federal tax forms, then file on line and pay taxes...all for free. Of course, this is a pipe dream which will never happen. Capitalism always wins...or does it?

Most of the E-filers will not E-file for americans overseas. Also most E-filers think that there is no life, outside of USA. For instance they all require a USA phone number & USA zip code for a foreign address. Yes, they are THAT ignorant. Very often non-USA phone numbers do NOT follow the 3-3-4 digit USA format. My own Philippine phone number is a 2-2-3-4 digit format. Also my Philippine zip code is 4 digits, yet all the E-filers require a 5 digit USA zip code. Also can not preface my 4 digit zip code with zero, because the E-file registration form responds with "Invalid Zip Code".
Seems to me that ALL the E-filers try to discourage as many people as possible from E-filing.
When will the IRS allow people to E-file from the IRS website? They say that they don't want to compete with the tax preparation companys, yet that is exactly what they did BEFORE E-File was invented.
Until the IRS lets me E-file my taxes from a foreign country, through the IRS website, they're just going to have to put up with paper tax forms from me.
