The MiFi is a really cool device. It is what I have always wanted, internet on the road. Though I am a bit concerned of the cost as the MiFi uses a sim card that you have to buy from a cellular service. What will those costs a month be? Will there be rollover minutes?

I cannot believe you are naming more Netbooks as items in "Gear of the Year" for innovative or interesting products. Its more of the same, in a different form factor. "Wow, it uses the atom.... so fresh?"
After seeing the first 2 items are both netbooks that bring NOTHING new to the table, I am closing this article. Poorly thought out.

Mojoth3Monkey, so you took the same amount of time ranting against the first two items than if you just read the whole article? Now who is "poorly thought out?"

The MiFi is cool, better if it supports 3G.
The Sony VAIO is a joke. People like netbook, besides the small size, is the price - just around $300. For $900, they may as well as get a normal laptop.
Why Sony always has to charge more for the same thing?

Yes, like other HSPA (GSM / 3G+) devices MiFi will use an operator SIM card. The US EVDO technology doesn't have this.

In terms of costs of usage, I guess it depends where in the world you are and which kind of service plan you sign up for. Mobile carriers in Europe are pretty much all offering flat-rate tariff plans with quite generous usage limits. These range from around USD12 per month.

Novatel Wireless has just announced the 3G / HSPA version of MiFi at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
