Microsoft may complain about crapware, but in my opinion the biggest offender on the machine I bought was Microsoft Office's "trialware."

When I got my laptop back in 2007 I had images of waterfalls, flowers, lakes and ponds and all that crap among other crap I don't need, I deleted all of that. I see no need for any of that. I like to know how many of you deleted softwares, images, and what not that you didn't need in the 1st place?

The first thing I'm going to do from now on when buying a replacement computer is to totally erase whatever's on the hard drive and install XP. Eliminating crapware is one side benefit of this process.

I agree with JimH443. I have bought two PCs in the last 18 months, and the worst offenders

were MS Office trialware and Norton Security Suite trialware.

It depends on how much hard drive space I have. One time, I had so little space (two or three GB) for my Windows XP installation, I started deleting photos, Start Menu items, fonts, programs, etc. Usually, though, I just leave alone most of that stuff because it's not worth the trouble of finding it all.

{quote}Microsoft Corp. is no fan either, as consumers blame Windows for running sluggishly, even when crapware is the cause.{quote}

To be fair, Vista is painfully slow with even a clean install.

It also matters where you buy your PC. Dell is notorious for "bloatware," "adware" and "trialware." I have better things to do then spend an hour so cleaning all that stuff off. Thank God for Revo Uninstaller and De-Crapifier.
Three years ago my wife and I bought two new desktop PC's from Vigor Gaming (www.vigorgaming.com). Pressed the power button and the Desktop came up in like 10 seconds with only 2 icons on it: Recycle Bin and My Computer. I couldn't be happier. They did not install a single application I did not as for. No trialware or anything.
We just bought a new Dell laptop because our old one finally died and their prices were unreal (Intel Core 2 Duo for less than $600). Took me well over an hour to clean all the crap off of it, included some Dell Dock that replaced the Windows Sidebar with more bloat that duplicated some of the icons and tasks that were already on the Desktop. Now tell me what is the point of that!!!

FYI, crapware lowers the cost of PC's. It is ad revenue for the OEM's. Buy a Dell/HP/Gateway and you are bound to get lots of crapware...

I would believe that if it were actually true. This is a farse invented by the big conglomerates like Dell. Like I said, when my wife and I bought our desktops we went to a "boutique" dealer (Vigor Gaming). It also came installed with ZERO trialware on it. It also came out CHEAPER than comparative systems from Dell, Alienware and other more mainstream vendors.
