It is funny to see all the 360 users coming out to defend Microsoft. I understand - the guilt must be hard to deal with, so you come out to convince people that the 15%-30% RROD rate of the Xbox360 is somehow perfectly reasonable, and people just need to put their game machines in cooler places.

It's ok, we forgive you for supporting Microsoft in their bordering-on-criminal business policies, and their vampiric grip on the PC gaming world, sucking all the life away from it for the sake of their broken, loud, and ugly machine.

The thing about that though MS did not get large by their way. Long ago in the console market there were only Sony Sega and Nintendo. FIrst sega and Sony were going nuts to see which system will win. When sega dreamcast came out it litterally dented the orginal playstation by storm. But sega's victory did not last long when the ps2 came out. Though the PS2 launch was not easy. (shortage of ps2's caused a uproar) and all of all this going on. nintendo was coming up with the dolphin which later on renamed to nintendo gamecube. When sega couldn't compete in the console wars anymore they threw in the towel. This is where Microsoft came in and gained grounds faster than the other 2 consoles in a short period of time. This is how the orginal xbox was born and it took Sony and Nintendo by surprise and when halo was introduced. Sony and nintendo had to think fast while sony was still suffering from ps2's availability. MS took that advantage very well.

Perhaps everyone is misconstruing the point here. The XBOX has more fatal failures than any machine on the market. Microsoft offers lousy support for the "Red Ring" for machines even slightly out of warranty. Has anyone heard of fatalities on the PS3?

at least the 360 has the most games hence more people. Sony just makes you wait for the best sellers. Only thing good for is bluray which i don't find myself droolin over it.
Most of the multi plat games that are on the 360 are on the pc. (though not sure if gears of war 2 might come). Though it is hard to say whether the 360 is sucking the life out of pc gaming or helping pc gaming evolve. They both have the same architeture except one is pretty much locked down and ugly like you say lol. though i thought the PS3 is all metal but when i looked at it closer its cheap plastic lol. Never realized that till now lol.

Mmmm...yes....

The dreamcast lost in a time when a generation (less?) of hardware improvements could make a HUGE difference.

I remember when the xbox was born. Microsoft took Halo, stolen from the Mac, instantly crushing Mac gaming forever, and stuck it on their pet project machine - half pc, half game console, all sputtering chimera. It was a huge success. I was drawn to the Xbox for the simple reason that most of the games on in were PC-like done by western studios that work on pc titles - kotor, fable, fps'- but then again i had a pc, and could play these games, or games like them, on that. and i bought a console, a ps2, specifically for >console< gaming.

of course it did well. microsoft secured some games that appealed to the US audience - it had that 'pc gaming on a console' draw, and i'm sure many pc gamers were easily sold on it.

ahh, but the day the xbox was born was the day that the PC shelf at Gamestop began its gradual shrinking process.

A hard drive failure is not a fatalitiy, it is a simple hardware issue that is quickly and easily fixed. There are even those who will regularly backup their files to a thumb drive for easy reinstallation. The only time that is needed usually is when you decide to upgrade the Hard Drive, which is quite simple and Cheap. coastie65

coastie i was not my hard drive it was my disk/cd-blueray drive that quit.

if you search the ps3 forums you will also see that this does happen along with other problems also no counsole is going to last for ever with heavy playing habits.

:D You won't get an argument from me there. Same thing with both my nephew's and my PS2 as well. That's a whole nother thing and not as simple as a Hdd. My Nephew pulled his off of what it was siiting on and it hit the floor and the disk drive didn't work afterwards. I had the newer flip top Slimline model that the disk quit working after some 1000+ hours.

I wouldn't use "Microsoft never made a PC" as a statement of Sony's quality. I worked as a repairman for a large Computer chain and we had more repairs on SONY pc's than most any other brand and they were the most complicated to fix and expensive to boot.

The Vaios are pretty solid. Proprietary machines are never easy to fix. I worked in a computer shop and we got mostly HPs, and we hated fixing those, so go figure.

I would say that the sony vaio hardware are weird but stable but their software is crap

HP hardware is alright but their software and os is better than how sony's has it setup not the best but better.

some of you xbox 360 people are nuts, my son is getting his third 360 elite in 18 months because it keeps over heating and you folks think that is OK ! I have

2 PS3's and they have never stopped working. My son does'nt even play with the xbox all that much because i have all of the different consoles { Wii, PS3, XBOX,

PSP, DS, GAME BOY ADVANCE }. NOW IT COST ME $ 106.00 DOLLARS TO SEND IT INTO MICROSOFT TO GET IT REPAIRED BECAUSE ALL THEY GIVE YOU

IS A 90 DAY WARRANTY ONCE THEY FIX IT THE FIRST TIME .

I've had an Xbox 360 for over 24 months, without a single glitch, no eaten disc, no overheating, not a single problem or crash. That is a fact. How the hell do you suppose Microsoft would get that significant market share, if all units were so crappy, and failed all the time???

Like with computers, the problem is sitting between the chair and keyboard, in your case, the controller... 99.99% Guaranteed!

BTW: And I also have PS1, PS2, PS3, & PSP.

PS: you wouldn't be laying the box directly onto a carpet would you? Or on top of some other heat dissipating equipment? Or Heat vent? ...

Message was edited by: WinTard - Oh, directly pointing out who was the cause of the problem. Okay I can live with that. Note for the record there were no nasty, impolite, profanities or vulgarities mentioned. But I guess, giving credit where credit is due equivocates 'attack' sometimes in your opinion; it is quite relative... I hope AuroraDizon you will apply the same zeal towards all members as well. Thank you for leaving a note, so we can all understand. I have tracked at least five disappearing messages so far on this board, without any feedback. With post count going up and down, accordingly. I also hope that forums bug gets fixed quickly... Anyway, I will repost whatever disappears, if there are no corresponding public explanations in the future. To overcome that bug in the forums...

Hey Win, :^0 Sounds to me like you are an equal opportunity gamer. I have PS2, PS3 and the PC for that stuff, and sometimes that seems a bit much, as at times I'll end up with stuff in progress on all three platforms. :p That is a lot for an old coastie like me. :D

Hi coastie65! You and I obviously do not like missing out on anything! We're true enthusiasts... Who cares about the name brand?

As a matter of fact, I'm pretty much turned off by Sony after their DRM scandal.

Please google: Results 1 - 10 of about 15,600 for Sony DRM rootkit scandal. (0.26 seconds)

And simply purchased the PS3 just to use as a blu-ray device for my home theatre, because at the time, it was cost-effective, but of course, also play it. Why not?

Cheers!

Hey Win, The way I saw it was, why should the kids have all the fun ? :D With a Toshiba Regza 42" Full HDTV, it was a good additon. I have my PS2 hooked up by way of Component rather than what came with it. Course the PS3 is by way of HDMI.

Hey coastie65 nice setup you have! Mine is connected to a 53" Pioneer Elite HDTV Reference Monitor downstairs. The others, my son has in his PC gaming room...

I think partisans are silly. Before one can choose, they must experience. Look for the best in things, not the worst. What matters is not what you look at but what you see.

You see, the problem, is people take sides, to justify they made the right decision. If they have to think about that... They certainly didn't make the right decision in the first place IMHO... Simple eh?
