Hmm... do I trust a company with hundreds of millions invested in it, with no proven way of making money, to keep my data safe? Do I trust them not to sell it? Probably not. Be smart and don't upload original content, like short films, photos, or blog posts, to your Facebook. Link to them instead. And don't give them too much personal information in general.

Well it would seem to me he's saying one thing and the written word is something else, so no I wouldn't trust what he's saying. Another thing, what if he sells Facebook? Your content is still there and now someone else is then in control of it. The best thing is just not post anything that might be of value unless you're willing to give it away.

Their lawyers probably had them cover their butts with the TOS, but in reality the CEO is now saying that they wouldn't do what the TOS legally allows them to do. Makes no sense. However, as with anything posted or transmitted on the net, people need to assume the worst will occur with regards to identity theft, information theft, etc. because all of that CAN happen, whether it's in dealings with Facebook or whatever. It's called personal responsibility, and protecting your info is part of that. We can debate Facebook's TOS details all day, but the reality of it is, don't post or upload anything you don't want to be public info.

I don't understand people who post their lives on someone else's web site. My rule of thumb: If you post something on the internet, be willing that the whole world will see it.

Zuckerberg talks a nice game, but when push comes to shove, what's written in the ToS will trump anything he has said. Its called the Parol Evidence Rule, google it.
I will likely keep my facebook page, but it is highly doubtful I'll ever put anything else other than a is post up again.
