I always hate to express criticism, particularly when it is a one-way situation, with only my words and point of view being expressed. However I feel it valid that potential users get to know key information. In this case I was a Mozy backup client when I experienced a major crash and lost all of my data. Ouch! I initally hoped that Mozy would save my butt.. er.. data. I was extremely disappointed to learn that Mozy had deleted my entire backup data. At the same time they were regularly collecting their monthly fee. Double ouch! To be fair I adcknowledge that my computer had been acting "badly" prior to the crash making updates impossible. Additionally, earlier in the year my credit card expired and it took a week or so to receive and record the new dates. However I was never notified that my backup files were deleted, leaving me totally vulnerable when I thought I was at least somewhat protected. Ironically I just saw today on my credit card statement that I was again charged a monthly Mozy fee.. for what? Mozy had deleted the ONLY copy of my backup data! Hard to understand, or to get over. I look forward to hear Mozy's side. Honest. So far they have yet to reply to my email - only a few days old to be fair.

I have been a Carbonite (www.carbonite.com) user for two years, and it is a great service. No max on storage, less than $50 per year, automatically backs up in the background and is extremely easy to use if you ever need to restore from a crash. It is, in fact, the market leader now. Mac version also coming out soon.

12/24/08 - Store it on the web!!!!! This is extremely scary!!! Who in the world would want to store their personal files, passwords, pictures, etc., on an ON LINE SITE??? Everyone should know what's going to happen. As soon as your information is downloaded to an online site, not all but a lot of the people working there - no matter what is said - can and will break your codes, passwords, encryptions, etc., and look at all your information - passwords, phone numbers, bank accounts, ect., and YES they CAN AND WILL do that. So if you want to believe the magnificent lying that goes on about your personal information being safe - go ahead and do it - BUT a word to the wise should be sufficient.

Check out the website http://www.myotherdrive.com. They have online backup and file sharing. They even let you move / copy between accounts - permitting back-end to back-end sharing, saving your precious bandwidth. By far, the most advanced file sharing site on the web.
