Is that the best you can do? I realize IE8 isn't feature rich like other browsers, but that just seemed so vague.
Another lack-luster performance towards a MSFT product. Make sure not to bedazzle us with better reviews of Firefox , Safari, Chrome and whoever else.

I agree, most of the talk was rather vague. But Internet Explorer has taken many hits that it doesn't always deserve. For example, in my own testing, I found that Internet Explorer 7 (8 was not yet available) slightly outperformed Mozilla Firefox in speed, download time, and security. I use IE8 RC1 at the current time, but I also like Firefox's customization features. Personally, I found that I liked both.
By the way, do not install the betas or release candidates of IE8; I found they didn't work as well as the full versions.

IE 8 is horrible.PERIOD!!!!!!!!! They keep saying that Windows 7 is great, if it has IE 8 it will be even worse than Vista, and we all know how bad that is. When is Microsoft going to get anything right??????? I am using Firefox as much as possible as even though IE 7 is bad, 8 is worthless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am evaluating Win7 and thus have IE8 with it. I have noticed that in the edit box to post on this site, the Rich Text works better than IE7, but in the Plain Text box there is no cursor and you cannot enter anything. However, IE and Clearspace have a long term incompatibility even going back to IE6. With the replacement of Clearspace in the near future with a new forum software, it will probably go away.

Hey that's funny, it is the exact opposite with me! Yet I use IE8. I cannot paste anything in IE8 using Rich Text, whereas my default editor here is Plain Text, and everything works (somewhat). I've always um, disliked the editing facilities at PCWorld, as I couldn't make any sense of it, until I simply defaulted to Plain Text. After which I edit outside, and simply cut-and-paste to post... Also writing a little of the Clearspace metacode on the fly helps...
I've noticed if I go into Rich Text and attempt to paste anything, it doesn't fail, or hang, but simply does nothing... Then when I revert back to Plain Text, that is when I lose the cursor, and can do nothing further... So a work-around that I discovered, was to perform a control-A control-X while the Plain Text window is focused (active) thus selecting everything, and copying and cutting into the clipboard. That clears the Plain Text window in Clearspace, after which, one can paste back, since the cursor becomes visible (again)...
But I also use PureText a simple freeware utility to:
PureText - text utility that strips formatting, HTML code, and other unwanted tagalongs
Works like a charm, and after PureText, pasting back into Plain Text mode, everything works as it should be... Most the problems are caused by 'invisible' thus whitespace characters... Maybe invisible to the naked eye, but not to the system...
Also explaining why I save over-and-again while posting. After the save, then edit button, things have been 'reformatted' like if it had a mind of its own. So by re-editing, I get the latest and closest WYSIWYG and continue to add post material including side-effects, which gets reformatted again...
I think on January 17 2009, I mentioned I couldn't figure out how to use this Clearspace editing facility... That was back then with IE7. And 99% of the pages here end up with ! Done, but with errors on page. On the bottom left of each window, but only on forums.pcworld.com... Strange eh?
And for the record, I credit Clearspace for the flaw, not IE7 or IE8...

As I said, it has problems with IE6, IE7 and now IE8. When the forum first went to Clearspace two years ago they though they would be able to work out the kinks with IE, but it never worked out. That's why most of us use FF. We are so looking forward to the new software.
