It doesn't surprise me in the least that it's a simple matter to intentionally install spyware on your own computer.
Now, if you had been able to report that the software at download.com included at the very least instructions on how to have it load itself automatically on a remote computer, THAT would be a story.

Apparently Mr Larkin has no teen age children.. I do and guess what, I spy on them.. I need to make sure they are safe.. I got the software I use from Download.com and I thank them for it..

Another scenario, I own my own support company.. I want to make sure that my employees are doing what I am paying them to do.. Not wasting their time reading bad articles on PC WORLD.com

HOW IS THAT FOR A STRETCH???

This article is very irresponcible trying to make download.com the issue.. Quit using cheesy scare tactics to get your poorly written articles read.. Making it sound like download.com is in someway at fault is like saying Chicago Cutlery is responcible for me cutting my finger the other night while slicing carrots..

I can understand your reasons, and admit that if I was in your position I'd be tempted to do the same. However, I strongly suggest you talk to a lawyer before you ever fire someone due to information obtained this way. The laws can be quite murky in these kind of situations. I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong, but it seems to me that you're just asking for headaches if you don't prepare yourself for them.

Today's employees see no reason why they can't send personal email, twitter, text, buy or sell on ebay and a number of other distractions while on company time. Fact: If you are not doing your assigned job, but are doing your personal business, you are stealing from your employer. One's labor is being used by one's employer to produce a product or service. That product or service is being used to pay you. If you are not producing for your employer and you are taking money for services you did not perform, your’e stealing. In other words stealing money (your pay) you are not entitled to. An employer should be allowed to verify their employees are indeed producing what they are being paid to do. That would include recording activities in any manner necessary to keep their company in business. Such data collected should be admissible in a legal act. Who knows, it may be legal now, don't know. Don’t care. I do my job and would have no issue with security cameras of keystroke loggers. Also, employers are always being sued for acts their employees commit either online or in person. PC World articles are normally very good and well written. However, you will always find a person who either cannot comprehend what is written or possibly see's some conspiracy or maybe is just insulted because someone pointed out they may be doing something that shows little honesty or character.
