So, it seems that Windows XP SP3 would come out after the release of Windows Vista. That's a long time to wait. In the meantime, automatic update is the way to go.

From http://www.techworld...180&pagtype=all :"The release date for Windows XP's next service pack has slipped to the first half of 2008."Regards,JB

Or maybe it'll get scrapped as most of us just use Windows Update to stay up to date. Though this does bring up an interesting question: Will Vista have service packs or will it just use windows update to fix itself?Regards,JB

They'll do what they always do. Put it off and put it off. All the while, telling us what features and patches will be included. Until, poof! It was cancelled and now the recommended fix is to just upgrade to the next operating system. This is the death of a lot of Service Pack 3 and higher rollouts.

Yeah, just use your automatic updates....an SP3 release would be nice, but PC World itself has an article on how to save your updates locally for faster reinstallation. Complaining about the death of higher rollouts because of Vista is akin to complaining that you cant find parts for your model T cause of the Mustang. It's business, it happens.

Good point. But since computer years are shorter than dog years. Can't we find a way to actually go back to upgrading things, instead of filling the land fills with last years technological refuse. At least dogs are bio-degradable. I mean, I don't want to slow down software technology, I just want to make more efficient and respectful.
