New Apple Gizmos Coming to Exclusively to Verizon?

sweet, so now I'm going to have to carry two separate contracts, one with Verizon and one with AT&T if I want the iPhone and iPad. these exclusivity deals are such a pain, but lord knows I don't want the government to try to fix it for obvious reasons. but why is the USA, the land of the free, the only country to still allow this? constituents and politicians - isn't democracy great? sorry, back on topic...
how widespread is Verizon's WiFi network? Does Verizon have deals in place like AT&T with Starbucks? I know Verizon is the best provider in the US bar-none, but that's their cellular network - do they have hotspots like T-mobile?
there's a lot that has to happen first, like Verizon bowing to Apple's demands. Apple won't blink, won't budge, and Verizon has historically had the same strategy in their business - the two couldn't agree on the first iPhone, but Verizon would have a lot of explaining to do now if they didn't have an iPhone by summer. I see this as a test run for a few new Apple products and a potential new telecom partnership for the 2010 4G LTE iPhone.

@ Relayman5C -
I think you are misunderstanding what this device will be capable of - the "iPad" will NOT be capable of placing calls on a cellular data network (Verizon's wide-spread network) as a device that does this would be considered an "iPhone" and thus a breach of contract with AT&T. The "iPad" device is reported as being able to make calls on WiFi ONLY, designating it something other than a true phone. So, the iPad, as I understand it from this article and other rumors, can not receive a data signal from Verizon's wireless cellular network.

If it's on Verizon's data network, it will be connected to the cellular network (i.e. EVDO or 1xRTT).
Now then, nothing could prevent VOIP short of Apple being thoroughly closed poo-poo-heads to their developers, as they are for the iPhone. Verizon may not want calls going over their 3G data network, any more than Sprint would allow it. Perhaps this thing is waiting for the 4G launch with enough surplus bandwidth to carry it through, which is also waiting on the delayed switch-over to DTV, as VHF analog TV stations are still hogging the bandwidth set aside for 4G.

It would be so nice to have something iphone like on the verizon network because verizons network is so much faster and more reliable then AT&T, I'm sure apple will be saying a few years from now "why the hell did we go with AT&T", i had at&t a year ago just to try the iphone out and i didn't like the coverage in Nevada at all! the 3G was slower then dial-up internet and the phone was always delayed so i switched to a blackberry and it was much worse from there so i switched back to verizon when the storm came out and so far loving that it "Works better for me"!
