I would bet that once touchscreens (both display and input) develop, there will be a whole assortment of situations that make using a mouse a handicap. Especially in complex fast-action games like RTS where you can take advantage of more controlled selection of various items.

Reports of the mouse's (imminent) demise is greatly exaggerated. I first used a touchscreen computer monitor at DisneyWorld back in '83, and I thought it was neat, but just a novelty. The one big problem with touchscreens is the problem that other posters have mentioned, your arm(s) get tired, that, plus the fact that using your fingers leaves fingerprints on the screen. Too messy. Whenever I see an iPhone commmercial on TV, I get to wondering, "Can you use a stylus with that thing?" because all I ever see is an iPhone screen full of fingerprints.
No, the mouse has been around for 40 years for a reason -- it's convenient -- and I know I can't, and don't, want to be bothered memorizing keyboard shortcuts. They may be faster than the mouse, but they're faster ONLY if you can remember them. With the mouse, there's no memorization required, just point and click. MUCH easier! Here's to the mouse being around for at least another 40 years!

If you guys haven't seen some of the latest work on touch, check these videos out.
It's a good chance that many of you will be using these types of devices in the near future.
There is a big move to make this happen lead by big companies and reseach labs.
Before the technology was not possible (or just too expensive). But it will happen now.

GOOD GOD a merchant making money on keyboard and mouse accessories. They even have a keyboard warmer so the keys are easier to press (quoting Dilbert's PHB).
No comment on the idea but I wouldn't need the products anyway. My room is air conditioned for both seasons and my machine under desk serves as a good leg warmer where air flow wouldn't reach.
