Windows 7 RC Gets a Nasty Bug, Microsoft Issues Patch

However, there were a few patches since beta build 7000, the last one being 7077 before this RC build 7100.
So are all patches for Nasty Bugs? Or just bugs?
Anyway, this is a Release Candidate, there could be a few others, before the final product.
Big deal!

I ended up digging into the advanced security settings on the root drive itself and forcibly took ownership of all files and folders on that drive, after which I could access the ACL list and restore normal security permissions for all users and system services. Fortunately this is a process I'm familiar with, and it's not something the majority of users should attempt, nor should they have to. Perhaps I had better submit a bug report to Microsoft, because this could potentially be a serious flaw.

I must say that I've never used the x86 Windows 7, directly went to the x64 version since Jan 13 2009 on build 7000. I've successfully joined the corporate domain, my own personal domain at home. So there again, I cannot speak for non-domain versions (workgroups), or bugs.
All I can say, is I have not noticed any of the problems reported by the article, specifically concerning the 32-bit version of Windows 7.
That patch issued by Microsoft was to fix the problem with x86, not x64. Thus only saw like you report, driver updates, specifially the Dell Bluetooth. That was the only one. Oh, I didn't have to look for a single driver, it was all done automatically by Windows 7. And they are all 64-bit drivers. :)
This is my device manager list:

I hope you are enjoying this trial version, as much as I am!

As a funny anecdote, people call me for trouble with their systems, and when I get there, the problem appears to vanish, only when I'm around... LOL! I know it is incredible, but yet still a fact. Oh well...

So far though, I have ran into a couple of snags...
1. There are two unknown devices - which I don't even know what they are yet... There are somethings in the laptop that are a bit hard to test as I don't use them. The wireless card works, the Modem works, sound works, even my hot keys at the top work. Everything I use seem to work fine... so I am thinking they may have something to do with the webcam.
2. This one is NOT Microsofts fault - just annoying. Alltel does not support 64bit windows. At all. I had to go to Kyocera for the driver... not a big pain - but still annoying.
3. This one I don't know about - I could not tell you if it is Windows or the Driver, but that same card (Kyocera KPC680) will not recover from sleep mode, requiring me to restart windows....
4. Again, Don't know if this is windows or the driver manufacturer, but, with ATI comes ATI drivers... and the newest from the website - built FOR win7 64bit, downloaded, installed, and didn't do me any good... for some reason, windows would not load it against the video card, opting for the MS driver instead. SO, I go the older version for Vista 64 and am a happy camper again. The video card does work... just on the wrong driver. So far no problems detected though.
SO, all in all, everything seems to be fine, the system has been MUCH more responsive. And it does not seem to be working as hard to do the simple things. For some reason, Vista made this poor laptop bust its butt for simple things... but 7 is doing well for now.

Yes, my bane is I was afraid of the suspend/sleep/resume problems. But on this Dell Latitude D830, zero, zilch, nada, no problems at all. And it is lightning quick. Whenever I swap the slide in SATA HDD with my work XP-SP3, I barely can stand the machine anymore... Yes our corporate standard is XP-SP3 still. So I have to use that at work. :( I don't even put the screw, so swapping the HDD is a mere shutdown/swap/reboot. 1.5 minute at most. And the thing shutdowns and boots fast. XP is much slower, but in all fairness, it is the x86 32-bit version of XP.
Eech, at work, we're going to wait till SP1 of Windows 7 before deploying... Wise move in the past, but I wonder with Win7? I'm just that impatient. I also have a gaming system at home using Vista x64, and it is slower than Windows 7, at least the perception that is...
I hope you find a solution to all your camera and ATi quirks.
Good Luck! And Have Fun!

I have had a chance to play movies on here, and play WoW, so far both are working flawlessly!
WoW never ran great on this machine due to the graphics card being a 3200, but at the native resolution and low settings, its pulling 35-40fps avg, I can deal with that.
I do want to see how it will hold up though once I get my usual arsenal of software installed. Sometimes windows can take quite an impact once nero, avg, comodo, and the various game managers (steam, EA, and NCsoft) get installed.... SO many more hours of testing to come.
However, for the moment, I am glad to report it SEEMS much quicker for the moment.

That is computer support 101...you show up and the problem magically fixes itself...you then leave and get a call 15 mintues later..."the problem is back"...so you wander over again...and it is gone again. Been there...done that. I mainly attribute it to the fact the my own computer has passed the word the when it misbehaves, I threaten it with a sledge hammer...thus, the other computers learn that from my computer and thus are scared into behaving again when I show up just due to the reputation my computer has made for me! ;)

Oh I hope you ordered the drive from Dell? If not, then you will have to get the HDD tray from Dell parts. The parts are inexpensive, they cost me $8 per tray. So I purchased 10, just in case. Then you can take any compatible drive, in the case of the Dell Latitude D830, any 2.5" Sata, and mount it onto that drive tray with two screws. You might as well as get those miniature screws from Dell parts.
Sorry I don't recall the exact model # for your Dell laptop? But in my case here's what I did.
Google: Results 1 - 10 of about 7,130 for dell latitude d830 service manual. (0.14 seconds)
http://support.dell....30/en/index.htm
http://support.dell....SM_EN/index.htm
http://support.dell....e.htm#wp1111657

So per HDD, you need a HDD bezel (#2) and two two M3 x 5-mm flat head screws (#1). That's it.
I prefer to buy parts, for the flexibility it affords me.
Seagate Momentus 7200.3 ST9320421ASG 320 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300 - 7200 rpm - buffer: 16 MB (ST9320421ASG) $100
Seagate ST9500420ASG 500 GB MOMENTUS 7200.4 SATA 2.5FF 16MB CCH with G-Force Protection (ST9500420ASG) $170
Prices vary all the time, just get the best deal. Those are from the brick & mortar walk-in store 5 minutes away from my home.
As you install Windows 7 from scratch, it will do EVERYTHING automatically. You just have plunk DVD, boot, accept the terms, and let'er rip! In my case, I didn't have to do a thing extra, to update, or look for any extra drivers. How much simpler can it get? :)
Enjoy!
