What are you talking about? Windows Mobile (rather, its sibling, Windows CE) is more than capable of keeping up in the "smartbook" space. All it needs is for developers to notice it and develop to it. There is fairly little difference between apps for XP/Vista and apps for WM/CE.

What windows mobile is lacking now is Silverlight support (they're working on it but it is still not there). The .net compact framework is good, yes, but silverlight would allow developing far richer and nicer application in less time. This will make win mobile more attractive for both business and consumers, also on smartbooks. I mean, I own a win mobile smartphone with a 800pixel wide screen. I could nearly call it smartbook I guess.

Break my heart. No Windoze!
Yeah, Windoze CE: Crippleware Entirely.
In place of a full OS and productivity, entertainment, etc. software, you could have WINDOZE CE!
I still fondly remember the CE based phones that would have to 'boot' for 30+ seconds after you switched them on before they could make or accept a call.
