As an early adopter of the Nokia N95, I've managed to avoid the "one hit wonders" all along..
The only function that's truly missed is the radar detector!

I totally agree... the lack of a radar detector keeps my dream of a device that automatically uploads radar/laser locations to share with all the other device users. Imagine that... you're zooming down 95 and you get an alert that in 3.5 miles a cop is gunning for drivers like you. Time to slow down :) And as you pass by that location and the cop has moved on, that information is uploaded too to share with the other drivers on the road.

I also agree on the radar/laser feature... I take exception to the question will TomTom hearld the end... I have had an AT&T Tilt (HTC) for a year and a half doing everything (for no additional application fee) that is now advertised with iPhone and TomTom! We have an iPhone for my wife, and while the features are great... she can not receive pictures in MMS or have voice turn by turn...

So have we taken a quantum leap forward, or just starting to catch up with HTC, and still are several months, and additional charges, away from the "FUTURE"???

A radar-detector-like device already exists for Smartphones and has for some time now. It's called Trapster.

The only thing is that I've never been truly impressed with the GPS function of the iPhone. I've never found it to be that reliable when compared to dedicated GPS units. I can have the iPhone set down somewhere outside (anywhere) and after awhile it will 'zero in' to an area with a 40ft diameter. Not exactly pinpointing me. And at that, it will move my location if I haven't even moved the phone. Or orient the phone in an ever so slightly different position and it'll show me moving 10+ ft away from where I am. HUH??? And the speed tracking function(s) are abysmal. I was really looking forward to having a unit that can act as a secondary speedometer. This ain't it. And I've tried various apps. Since they all use the same GPS API, the results are always the same, so it's not app-specific.

I'd be tempted to buy the TomTom app when it comes out, but if it functions as questionably as the other apps (why wouldn't it?), then I have an issue with the app store: What to do with an app that doesn't work? In a way, it's like buying a boxed app at a retail store, but there you have some potential of returning it or at least getting a store credit. Not so with the App Store. Once you've purchased an app, you're pretty much never going to see that money again regardless if the app works or not.

MMS'ing is also available in the App Store. It's called MMS Buddy. And like Trapster, it's been available for some time now.

Rumor has it, the new Iphones are built with better GPS chips to lock in better satellite signals. The new holster that comes with the Iphone has a speaker for Darth Vader or whoever else's voice you get from Itunes (I like the British Lady voice). I think this is a good move for the Iphone and TomTom.
