You answered this question with the next paragraph of your article.
"The best hope for Pre, in the short term, is for Sprint to take such decisive pricing action on its service contracts that it makes Verizon and AT&T look hideously overpriced. How likely is that?"
You might want to look at sprints plan pricing. Savings on sprints plan pay for the 100 dollar difference in 2 months...... plus you got another 22 months of overpaying on ATT. Iphone is overpriced at 99 dollars when you factor in the plan that actually makes it usable.

Oh no! I think PC World just lost my subscription.

Perhaps I can help you. Here are reasons why I will choose the pre over the iphone:
1.) multitasking.
2.)Sprint is better than AT&T. connectivity, speeds, everything. even iphone users hate AT&T
3.) $99 EVERYTHING plan. even if everything else were equal I'll pay an extra $150 - I'll make it up 3 months into a 24 month contract.
4.) the $99 iPhone is NOT the G3S and therefore will not have more memory or faster processing.
Even though the pre might not be for you, it's a bit silly to say you can't see even one logical reason to choose a pre over a $99 iPhone.
Disclosure: I'm typing this on my beloved macbook pro and I hated my Palm Treo. So please don't accuse me of being an apple hater, windows fanboy or a Palm lover. kthxbye

I'm sorry but the only people naive enought to believe that would be iphone users.
Do not know about the thumbs down bit...I will forward that on as well...but there is a bug in the software that is causing the problem...they are trying to get it fixed...but it is also one of the reasons why the forums will be going to new software soon.
But, then maybe you are right...the whole world is controlled by iPhone users and we (although I cannot see how that includes me as I do not own or use an iPhone) are all out to get those of you who believe the Pre is better...including deleting all the negative comments about articles that we like...even though all those comments are still here on the forums (if you bothered to check).

Oh, and the thumbs down rating is there...kind of. The one at the top is gone for some reason (it appears this might be true of all the Business Center articles), but there is still one at the bottom of the page:
The current tally is 65 thumbs up and 691 thumbs down.
But feel free to believe that PCWorld is out to remove all traces of your negative feedback.

Bothered to check? The ONLY way I knew the missing posts were in this forum, is because I got emails with links after posting. Being the first time I ever posted, I didn't even know there WAS a forum.
At first I made a post in HowardForums Sprint-Pre section ripping you guys a new one. I assumed you were protecting the and PC World from extreme embarrassment (nothing to do with iPhone users). Then when I realized the posts were not actually deleted, and some kind of error was possible, I deleted my post.

Items like Hollywood Video capabilities are not yet in use. 16 Mega pixel Video is possible. Newer High Speed Internet connections are possible. The list goes on and on. So this is just the start. The problem is this is a competition and iPhone/Apple is not the only companies in the race. RIM is an after thought in my mind at this point in time. It does not have the capabilities to even try to compete with the current hardware that it has deployed.
The game changing features are there.
The recent announcement of the flight info system to track flights is just the tip of the iceberg to show what is possible.
This is a paradigm shift in how to think of a phone. No longer is it does one thing at a time

Do you not have anything more up to date? I don't know if it's laziness, an uncontrollable bias or a simple matter of incompetence.

I recently got Sprint service and it is way better than Verizon where I live - which is Los Angeles, CA. Epic FAIL for Verizon when "horrible service Sprint" kicks your ass.
I swear there is a giant conspiracy out to get Sprint. I read all these articles dogging Sprint but all their claims are unsubstantiated at least in my experience.

Since this post I have been doing more research and found something very amazing.
The same TI CPU that is in the Palm Pre is now in use and on sale in Europe in a 3G GSM Unlocked Phone.
The Phone is Korean Made. It sports a True HD Camera at 720p that has 8 MP for both Full Motion Live Video and Pictures with Auto focus and Auto Adjust. It allows Video Phoning and Video Messaging, as well as a 3.7 inch screen the AMOLED Screen uses less energy and is bigger than the iPhone and reportedly smokes the iPhone in comparison tests.
On technical merit alone the TI CPU in use by the Pre can and should be doing more. It was a poor choice to go with the Active LED Screen versus the AMOLED Screen.
That aside, the Pre could be doing so much more and is not. This Phone made by the Koreans is on the Orange Network in Britain right now. Lists out unlocked right now for between 800 to 850 a copy.
It runs Symbian.
Samsung i8910.

All the S60 Software that runs on the Nokia's runs on this phone too. So there are thousands of apps already available for it.
It also multitasks....
USB and also tethering works as well. Everyone of the iPhone and Pre Tricks are here except the cards for multitasking. This one uses a cube to move to different apps and a task list.
So this arguement is a mute point.
