Just downloaded and installed it. have had AVG Free which I thought was very good. Microsoft's new AV scanner found, identified and removed 2 backdoors that AVg missed..
running Win 7 rc.. have not noticed any significant slowdown and speed decrease. in fact firefox opens quicker now.

I hope you checked those "backdoors" to double check that they were, in fact, files that you did not want...sometimes AVs "argue" over what is and isn't malware...and some programs by nature have malware-like traits that are picked up by AVs, when they are actually legitimate applications.

Firefox opening faster is probably due to a special internet extension that AVG used.

So far, I am happy with MSE; It's small, easy to set up, and completely out of the way. Probably one of the few AVs I'd say it's safe to game online with without hacking at latency.

Well it is currently in limited trials. Once they are done with this phase of testing, I imagine they will release it to a larger audience. If you are part of the MSDN, you can probably get a copy of it for evaluation and testing though. Keep checking on their site to see if they have opened up the betas to a larger audience. Or you check the postings over on TechNet as well for the announcements: http://tinyurl.com/832nco
