Why Does Word Load So Slowly?

I don't know why it loads slowly, but one change I made to Vista64 on my quad computer made a huge difference in start times for all components of Office 2007. Start times are now a few seconds, particularly for the second and subsequent starts after computer turn-on. Fisrt starts can still be a bit slow. The change was to deactivate Sync Center (mobsync.exe). Mobsync seemed to be capturing WMP at times and preventing me from opening that program, and mobsync recognized few if any of my usb connected flash/hard drives. So I had no need for it. I deactivated it, using the security denial trick.
A couple of steps were involvedt:
1. Turn-off mobsync.exe (if it's running), using task manager.
2. Go to C:/windows/system 32, find mobsync.exe, take ownership of it (security), and deny access to all, including the 'System".
Now Word, Pwr Pt, etc start in a few seconds. But I can't guarantee this will work for all. I've turn off many other features of Vista that I also don't use, and they may be part of my result.

THANK YOU!! Your mention of normal.dot led me to solve a problem I've had since day one.
When I open a new Word (2007; Sys = XP) file (Document1) it has Cambria and Calibri at 11 pts as the norm.
How do I get my preferences of Times New Roman at 12 pts?
Open a new file, Document1. Change "Headings" to desired font and size. Change "Body" to desired font and size.
Select "Save As" "Template" with Destination of Desk Top; I named it Word Template.
Now, for a new word file, I just open (click or dbl click) "Word Template;" I used to open a short-cut to Word.
Thank you again! Bob Quinn

Am using Word 200 and it takes about 5-10 seconds after word opens until a flashing cursor appears, Same time required to close Word. Tried al the suggestions and found that winword /a fixes it, but the following suggestions did not. Also, there is neither a normal.dot or normal.dat in the computer. There is a normal.doc, but changing that did not fix it either.
