In the interest of full disclosure, How much of ZD does Google own? PC World has certainly jumped on the hype wagon.

Google has failed in each and every service it has offered other than the wonderful search engine. It is the search engine which pays for these adventures by Google.

Google's strong name recognition and the use of Linux resources make me believe they will be successful in developing a strong competitive OS with eventual wide spread adoption.

Google has the resources to go out and buy good applications that can be adapted for use in the Chrome OS.

Most users are oblivious to the OS, they only appreciate results and a user friendly interface.

Competition makes the market stronger, I hope Google succeeds, computer users will benefit.

Time wil tell.

I'm posting here since the other article's comments are flooded already.
As much as I like Google and their products, I'm not betting a lot on their OS. People - myself included - need the precision and power of the standard proven apps, which Google can match. Don't you get the feeling that a Google Document isn't even as robust as MS's Wordpad?
(Hey, it's great for what it does, to allow document sharing, but that's about it.)
I'm definitely routing for Google in any battle against Microsoft, but I predict that they'll lose this particular game.
