The argument for a longer battery life on the iPhone is relative. If you used it as a phone, like it is, the battery life is fine and will last you all day. If, however, you're like myself and I assume most iPhone users, and use it to continuously check email, connect to the Internet, etc, then you're using the iPhone more like a portable computer, and the battery is comparable to that of any standard laptop. The reason you don't hear an argument for a longer battery life with laptops is because it's easier to carry around a smartphone. And even if you did carry a laptop, once you get to where you're going, you can always just plug it in.

A single day for a phone's charge is absurd. I have had many phones that would last nearly a week on a charge.
My iPhone usage is hardly more that my use with other phones, but it barely lasts 9 hours from full charge. I have even experimented with not using the phone at all, turning off wifi, and push, and even then the full charge only lasts 10 to 11 hours. THAT is ridiculous.
And what is this absolute nonsense about "ten hours of video playback and 30 hours of music on a single charge"? Are they kidding? That may be how much the hard drive can hold, but NOT an ability to play continuously. That is just false advertising.

A single day for a charge on a phone is absurd, I agree. But the iPhone is not just a phone. It's a smart phone and thus has functionality beyond keeping phone numbers, sending/receiving texts and calls. On nearly a daily basis, I use my phone for emails, searching the web, streaming Pandora and iTunes, using maps, instant messaging, banking and finance, calls, games, remote computing and even tether it to my netbook for 3G or WiFi connection. Suddenly a whole day's charge for what's basically a computer doesn't seem bad, does it?

As far as your battery life is concerned, perhaps your battery is bad? When I switch off 3G, push, auto brightness, wifi, backgrounding and such, my phone lasts the whole weekend, Friday night to Sunday night.

Battery life means nothing to me, because I find my iPhone useless without something like openvpn that I can use to connect to my house. Also, more ways to sync music/videos/etc with other computers without having to use a physical cable and itunes as well.
