Like I've always said: Myspace is an abomination. It really doesn't get any simpler than that. 'nuff said

It should be noted that Sacha Baron Cohen's character "Borat" was started in 1995, well before Mr. Cagri appeared on the web.

I have to say that I totally agree with #1. MySpace.... is ghetto really a design option? I guess so...I do feel the need to stick up for WebVan a little bit though. They did a lot of things wrong, but I would have starved to death in the first dot-com bubble if it had not been for them.

Whoever made up this list is a dumbass. Hotmail and Myspace? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING. How come pcworld.com isnt on this list? At least on those 2 other sites you don't have to subscribe to the magazine to read some articles. Plentyoffish.com isnt even on there and it's by far the worst and most depressing site that i've been too. Well it was the most depressing site until I got this email for this lame list.

Yes, it IS very entertaining! Good job, Dan and crew! And best of all, you can add another chapter, every six months or so, and it would continue to be entertaining -- and you'd never run out of candidates, and never have to repeat yourself! You could come up with themes for each round -- dumbest, shiftiest, most expensive, most infuriating to have to use -- you have the makings of that in this list! Go for it!best, from Mac McCarthy!

As a psychologist who studies MySpace, I think you are missing the point. The fact that the individual sites are chaotic and look like a child's bedroom is because this is one of the only places where adolescents and young adults can freely express themselves without having their parents yell at them to clean up their rooms. Teens these days have few "safe" places where they can hang out and just be teenagers. Malls are no longer safe. Street corners are out. Parents work and want their kids home after school. I also dispute your assertion that MySpace is "a one-stop shopping mall for online predators." Research shows that this is simply not true. As the 11th largest country in the world you would expect sexual solicitations but the teens are handling them with ease and research shows that it is not upsetting to them .. just to their parents. Feel free to visit my website at www.csudh.edu/psych/lrosen.htm for reports on my research.

I'm glad I am not the only one that feels MySpace seriously needs one hell of a make-over. Not to mention some type of security enhancements. I didn't know the website has drive-by downloads?!?!? Great article! Forgot about some of those horrible sites from the '90s.

If you are going to post a website as bad I would think you would say why it is bad. I was quite surprized to see the Microsoft Update website on your list. I am quite curious why it is bad????

Your remarks re Hotmail.com (#20) are grossly unfair to the Hotmail of today. You tell them who is an authorized sender, and any other posts get sent to the junk file, where they remain 5 days and are gone. During that time it's your responsibility to check the "junk" mail for posts you may actually want. What could be easier?

The most popular and you hate it because it's not Big Brother enough. Try insisting on a little common sense and a grasp of reality from the people who want to use the web. 1984 never happened and THAT is a good thing. Let's try holding the lower denominator responsible for their own actions and quit pulling us all down to theirs. I don't need you wiping my nose or sweeping the floor infront of my footsteps.

Cute list, but you got the facts wrong about AllAdvantage. It was $0.25 per hour (although the amount changed at various points as the offerings changed), AllAdvantage raised nearly $200 million by the end of its run, and signed up over 10 million users. And even to its last days, there were more than enough advertisers... the company was one of the largest consumers of advertising content on the Internet... the problem was that as the dotcom bubble burst, advertising rates collapsed across the industry. Cute story Dan, but careful with the fact there... ;)

That was fun to read and of course, the list goes on forever. I'll bet most of us laughed or at least smiled as we read through your choices but I see there is one person who took this article way way too serious. I won't name names but it rhymes with mad04f150. I wonder if it's possible to download a sense of humor from MySpace.com? I look forward to the next "Webs Worst".- Ironjaw -

myspace is not only as bad as you say it is, but far worse. Myspace and facebook, even properly used by adults, serves no purpose other than keeping dead freindships on life support and providing a space for people to complain about junk that no one would remotely care about but pretend to due to the aforementioned freindship life support. And the trully horrible thing is, knowing this I have accounts on both sites :( One addendum though, hotmail is not nearly as bad anymore. I have used hotmail for a long time as I was able to lock in a great email addres without an extra letters or numbers, and yes for a time spam was commonplace, but Microsoft got their act together the last month or so and cleaned it up. On adverage I get maybe 5 a week tops, usually not that many at all. Granted before I got 10 a day.....

Fun article ... however, in regards to #14, bidforsurgery.com, I've got to say -- I looked at the site and I think they're on to something, actually. Millions of people get elective surgery annually -- why not have a tool to compare/contrast services/price?I'm actually amazed I never heard of them before. I'm not sure that the "auction" model is the best way to go for medical care, but price is increasingly an important consideration for medical care. Hundreds of thousands of U.S. residents go overseas (or to Mexico) for health care for just that reason.Jeff SchultAuthor, Beauty from Afarwww.beautyfromafar.com

[quote name='RayEverettChurch']Cute list, but you got the facts wrong about AllAdvantage. Cute story Dan, but careful with the fact there... ;)Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately) I never signed up for All Advantage, so I had to base my report on research I found on the Web. But I got those rates I quoted from an archived All Advantage page on the Wayback Machine -- see http://web.archive.o...ates.asp?refid= Capital invested and subscriber figures are notoriously slippery, especially for dot coms that never completed an IPO. The $135 million figure came from a contemporary report in Fortune magazine. As for AllAdvantage having 10 million subscriber/members, I suppose that's possible. I can't find any evidence of that. There is plenty of evidence to support they claimed at least 2 million. When in doubt, I usually go with the lower numbers.Still, Ray may be right. But if he is, doesn't that make AllAdvantage a worse site, even more worthy of this list?cheers,dt

The reason some of these websites are on the list is obvious. But "Rabies for Kids"? This website is not only well done, but very informative and educational, not only for kids, but adults as well.It could help save a life!
