I want to know what computers will be able to do for me. I want microphones and speakers throughout my house so that the computer will be able to monitor the house and its occupants by using sound. It should know everything about the house. It should know what devices are on and the reason for them being on. It should be able to take corrective action such as turning off electricty, gas, or water to he house if they present a problem. The computer should know if any of the occupants have any problems by talking to them and how to get help to any who need it. The computer should be able to regulate the heating and cooling by knowing where the owners are and when they will return. With good programming and sensors the computer should pay for itself with energy savings in less than a year. One will shop online and than pickup the products at the store. The computer will have a 3D model of the owner so they will be able to try on clothes and mix and match them at home.

I've heard statistics of both 32 and 80 cores being available by 2012, not sure if those are too far off figures, but doesn't seem totally impossible, with quad-cores sounding like you're from another planet before the year 2000.But, I still don't get the point of marketing 2+ terabytes to regular PC users, as of now.

Will we ever get away from Hard Drives? No matter how advanced and fast everything gets, we're still putting all our important information on something that's pretty much useless once it gets tired of spinning.With 5 gigs of storage space able to sit on a thumb drive, is anybody working on "Hard Drives" that will just store the information in a similar way (to thumb drives), but in a much greater capacity?Wouldn't it be faster and more stable?

First off A house like That exist , umm well in "The Lab " been tested just costs way too much money for any normal person and im sure its full of bugs. Most of That stuff like heating and cooling system you can buy same with lights etc. but it will cost you just look it up , about knowning when you come home there are some programs you can set on your pc so it will turn on lights kinda like a timer, again most of this stuff is around already just not as advanced, either way I bet Bill Gates has that stuff lol. Yes there are people working onbigger and better flash hard drives read the guys post about the Pc world mag issue.

Hey Gondo, I wouldn't hook that computer of yours up to internet :lol:I don't think we will be seeing more than 16 cores either, a newer technology will probably overtake multi-core processors.I can see processors, memory and storage becoming more biological as we move further into nano technology. Transistors will probably be replaced with atoms and motherboards will probably be organic cell structures 8)Our PC's will certainly do more than turn lights on and off or play music.Your Futuristic PC will make you a light bulb and compose it's own music for you to listen to. Your Futuristic PC will be your best friend, doctor, cook and give you a much more pleasurable experience than a jpeg or avi :lol:The humble mouse and keyboard will be replaced with brain controlled devices and your monitor will be replaced with some form of 3D holographic gadget.And WHEN, eventually our PC's finally make the transition into organic devices, we humans will be in great danger from extinction. A Virus will become much more than just a security threat when intelligent biological machines (computers like us) will have the capability to experiment with mother nature 8)I am of course talking from the next century :D
