My husband got a computer from Walmart and we got an HP Windows Media Center at the beginning of the year for only 450 including LCD monitor because it was a floor model. I don't think I could of found a trustworthy computer at that price with LCD monitor anywhere. DVD rw, 9 media card reader, 512 ddr (I think) We expanded to 1.43 gigs of ram, AMD Athlon 64 processor 3400+ 1.77 ghz 80 gig hd.

Right now im looking at some desktops at Circuit City and Best Buy. They seem okay, but alot of people say thats not a good idea. That they have low end components. What do you think?

They have good computers but as with anywhere research opinions from people who got the system - tech support warranty etc.Just a quick note try to stay away from emachines and dell. Dell is overpriced and there tech support services are a hassle, emachines are well you get what you pay for sometimes and generally not that upgradeable. Lower end PC brands I reccomend are HP, Gateway and Compaq.

looks like a good computer for a decent price. It doesn't say if the ram is expandable or not it would be a good thing to ask.

It looks like a good place to start and has room for some expansion. The one from best buy that is.

Well, I got my computer. I bought the HP Pavillion model # a6000n. But there was something wrong with one of the memory slots and they had to exchange it for another one. They said that the HP was discontinued and now I have the Gateway model GT5432. The Gateway seems slower than the HP and when I first turned it on it crashed about 3 times. The people at Best Buy (Where I bought the machines) said the Gateway has a faster processor and a bigger hard drive. But it doesn't seem fast because it takes a long time to start up and to shut down. I don't know. Should I keep it or try to return it and get my old one somehow or get a totally new machine altogether? Does anyone have any insight on either computer? And maybe is there something installed that's making it run slow? Please help if anyone can. Here is the HP: http://www.shopping....m/shopping/datasheet/rx885aa.htmlHere is the Gateway: http://www.gateway.c.../gt5432.phpAlso, here is my Hijack This logfile.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.0 (BETA)Scan saved at 7:26:58 PM, on 7/13/2007Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:Windowssystem32taskeng.exeC:Windowssystem32Dwm.exeC:WindowsExplorer.EXEC:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exeC:WindowsRtHDVCpl.exeC:WindowszHotkey.exeC:WindowsModPS2Key.exeC:Program FilesBigFixbigfix.exeC:Program FilesGrisoftAVG7avgcc.exeC:Program FilesZone LabsZoneAlarmzlclient.exeC:WindowsSystem32rundll32.exeC:Program FilesYahoo!Search ProtectionSearchProtection.exeC:Program FilesYahoo!MessengerYahooMessenger.exeC:Program FilesInternet ExplorerIEUser.exeC:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exeC:Windowssystem32wuauclt.exeC:WindowsSystem32mobsync.exeC:Windowssystem32MacromedFlashFlashUtil9c.exeC:UsersLisaDownloadsHiJackThisv2.exeR1 - HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain,Search Page = http://go.microsoft....?LinkId=54896R0 - HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/R1 - HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain,DefaultPageURL = http://www.gateway.c...&Br=GTW&Loc=ENGUS&Sys=DTP&M=GT5432R1 - HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain,DefaultSearchURL = http://go.microsoft....?LinkId=54896R1 - HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain,Search Page = http://go.microsoft....?LinkId=54896R0 - HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain,Start Page = http://www.gateway.c...&Br=GTW&Loc=ENGUS&Sys=DTP&M=GT5432R0 - HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearch,SearchAssistant = http://www.gateway.c...&Br=GTW&Loc=ENGUS&Sys=DTP&M=GT5432R0 - HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearch,CustomizeSearch = R0 - HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerToolbar,LinksFolderName = R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo!
