My question is I was told by a Best Buy employee that my current laptop which I have just decked out with 2 gigs memory is virtually useless in 6 months because everyone and everything will be running vista. And in order to run it you have to a new dual core processor, I have AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML, and really want a second opinion, can I really not update this to Vista? Please help with your advise!

No it won't be useless. I highly question what percentage of computers will run Vista in 6 months as I don't think any of my machines will be upgraded to Vista as there are likely more than a few places that will wait a while before putting Vista onto their systems.Secondly, there is no dual-core requirement for Vista. http://www.microsoft...dy/capable.mspx notes a 1 GHz requirement and you don't specify what kind of video card is in your laptop and that is the big question as part of Vista that appeals to some is this new interface known as "Aero" that requires some oomph from such a card as noted in the requirements. Now Vista may run better on a dual-core machine but I would hardly think it is a requirement.Thirdly, there are several AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML models looking at http://www.amd.com/u...ctInformation/0,,3011812651_12658,00.html so which do you run as the range is somewhat broad from my view.Regards,JB
