I attempted to reinstall windows on my Dell 8200 ( I have done this before)But now something is really wrong..Windows install hanged( I had to reboot..which I think messed it up)I formatted it ect...I have tried 3 ytimes in the last 2 days to reinstall windows..It seems to start out fine and then hangs when you get to the "Lets set up your windows" bit...I mean like all day hang...so I hard rebooted and windows loads...only very slowly and runs like mud.( some of it is because of reinstallation of drivers..I know..bu this is ridicoulus)And now it says I have 2 windows XP installed...I also have registery errors...also it would not even let me enter the XP 25 code or let me authtenicate windows...or whatever thats called on reinstallation.Dell support is no help because D/Ls will not run...Could all this be caused by a dying HD? It is 6 years old. Please help

If you think the HD is on it's way out, then download the diagnostic tools from the manufacturers web site, create the boot CD and run the program. It will tell you if there are any bad blocks. If there are none then, you could delete and recreate the partitions using FDISK and retry the install.

Hi,I dont think its the HD sound more like the SW is damaged and cant go any further and thats why it "hangs", but asumming its fine: A lil' story b4 my questions. When you call support and tell them that your PC is not working the first question is: Is it plugged-in? Belive it or not this question MUST be asked. Its actually tought in the IT course (the IT fellas know). :lol:Ok I know you tried 3 times and done it b4 but Did you delete the partitions before trying to reinstall? How can Windows load (as you stated) if you cant install it?I know how its sound but Im just trying to help, THNX.
