"Internet explorer cannot display the webpage"

Hello, I am new to the boards!About a month ago, I started receiving the error message above. My firefox is working fine, but Internet Explorer (and any program that uses IE) will not connect to the internet. I have googled for help and couldn't come up with much. The only thing I could think of is that could be wrong was "work offline" was turned on--it isn't. I was running IE version 6 and so I upgraded to IE 7 with no resolution of the problem. I have run a full system scan with Norton antivirus and Spy Sweeper with no help. I can't think of anything else. Anybody have any ideas as to what may be causing this?Any advice is much appreciated!

Is internet explorer allowed by your firewall?
