just bought new 22" LCD HANNS-G monitor

Hi, I finally got rid of my 6 year old 19" Dell CRT monitor. With the greatest of ease, and an incredible low price, I recently installed a Hanns-G (from Taiwan) 22" LCD widescreen monitor. It works great, looks great, DVD's play fantastic (16.5 million colors). I just have a few minor questions about the best way to utilize my PC and it's new components.

My OS is Windows XP SP 2, 2 GB of RAM, 40 GB on the hard, 320 GB external. Speed is 1.8 Ghz on a Pentium 4 chip board. My video card is a 64 MB Geforce. Out of habit I always left my PC on and even with various screensavers, I have minor screen burn. I know LCD doesn't burn, so should I bother with screen savers or shut off the screen when not using or should I always shut off the PC when not in use?

With this particular brand, a message on the screen when I turned it on said the monitor was made for and configured for Vista, which was not in the advertising nor on the box. I'm running an IE7 browser and I kicked up the screen resolution to 32 bits and 1280 x 800. Although everything is brilliant, but slightly stretched out, I was wondering if there any tweaks or tricks someone might suggest to get the maximum benefit from my new screen?

Thanks in advance for your attention. I look forward to your comments. John

Hi Cyberlack. I have moved this Discussion from the Audio & Video Hardware Community into the Other Hardware Community. Now, let's see if we can answer your questions:

This is a personal preference. I have three LCD monitors, I never turn off my computer or my monitors. The only time I ever restart my computer is when instructed to do so by an application update or system update. Additionally, I do not like screen savers. This all being said, if I turn my monitors off right now, there is no burn-in on any of the three monitors. Again, this is your personal preference.

That is a very good question. I am not sure if there are specific tweaks, per se. The one thing I would suggest is to but up that video card to at least a 128MB card. Other than that, I will step aside and see what else others have to say.

Hey there,

Well i would recomend you to get a newer graphics card, as this could pump up the resolution and the graphics quality, the other thing is, yes you can place a screen saver on, but it is not nessesilary to turn it off.
