Re: The Web's Best Free Stuff
1st off AVG has the LOWEST detection rate of the major 3 antivirus programs stripped down or not. antivir has the highest detection, and uses less resources. avast has 2nd highest detection, also consumes less resouces and both AntiVir and Avast have better updaters than AVG. AVG HAS 0 ADVANTAGES TO THE OTHER 2 EVEN PC WORLD ITSELF SHOWED IT. AVG = WORTHLESS.

Re: The Web's Best Free Stuff
Hi vMattLEEv. Okay, I am not one to get into back and forth posts regarding anything. My posting was simply to show that there is a fully functional version of AVG Anti-Virus. To each his or her own. I use AVG Free and have not had any issues. You don't like AVG, fine.

The bottom line is that there is a choice. There are way too many applications for there to be one standard for anything. I use and suggest the tiered approach I mentioned earlier. As long as you get the performance you desire and avoid the malicious files that are floating out there, it doesn't matter what application you choose.

Time and time again people will put information online like this that is TOTAL RUBBISH!!!!!
Please do feel free to show us your sources for such gibberish as you state!
I laughed at the mere thought of a company actually attempting to monitor the users of a program that is so widely distributed and used as Utorrent.
Deary me, you need to think about the sheer numbers involved mate.
Anyway, forget the details it still stands that your unfounded claims about utorrent are completely without any basis in reality!

Re: The Web's Best Free Stuff

Ahh, bittorrent? Didn't you even read the articles in the magazine. Why publish an article espousing the fact that the ISPs providing broadband are thinking of charging by use and then list those P2P and various other bandwidth hogging programs as "BEST FREEBIES"? Makes you wonder about the readership. I agree with some of the comments concerning other software which was left out, but I do believe Staroffice and OpenOffice could have shared billing. I am sure some would agree there are flaws in even the opensource programs, but they improve just like their big business counterparts if you take time to donate to the cause. All this computing genious for free or for a paltry donation is quite worth what it costs.

out of boredom i will explain why bittorrent is bad and why what their doing is illegal

1st off bittorrent started off as open source then the owner of bittorrent decided to help on a project called blogbot. blogbot allows for tracking urls and being able to send them to others. now whats that for bit torrent and why is it illegal?

1st off basically the guy incorporated blogbot into bittorrent which not only enabled him to monitor users actions but also allowed for sending the info to the riaa. this is illegal and is why bittorrent and the riaa are so reluctant in telling ppl how they catch users.

he was also part of a project called pycrypto which would allow him to encrypt all this data to send it to riaa without ppl tracing it. this how ppl get caught and how bittorrent made all its money and is why bittorrent and riaa wont release how they catch ppl. it is also why utorrent and bittorrent are not good to use. its monitored software.

Re: The Web's Best Free Stuff
thats ok never quite there. u keep using utorrent and bittorrent. just hope ur walking the straight and narrow cause if u get caught from doing something wrong then u only have yourself too blame for being stupid enough to use monitored software. why dont you just installed gator software too? i mean clearly being monitored doesnt bother u so having spyware shouldnt either. right?

Re: The Web's Best Free Stuff
actually my pt is there are 100s of torrent clients that are completely free of monitoring software and are open source. bittorrent and utorrent should not be included in "best of" anything. if pcworld cared about their users they would mentioned azureus over bittorrent of utorrent but they prolly get paid to recommend utorrent. my other pt was the editors generally never use the products they recommend and just get paid to mention certain ones or they stick with one and wont try anything else. none of those cases give them a right to write a review. they know it and is why my posts written about it are skipped over cause all they want is to respond to suck-ups who congradualate them for their sponsor supported lists.

Re: The Web's Best Free Stuff

How many times are you going to tell us al the FACTS you seem to be privy to on the threat of using bit torrent and Utorrent???

Oh yes and it was only out of boredom right, that you made another three, or was it four posts?#

Nothing to do with arrogance or ego. ;)

Let me ask you what I would always ask anyone who makes spurious, unsubstantiated claims on any topic.#

Can you supply us with the evidence that leads you to such hyper-paranoiac conclusions?

Until you do my friend you are nothing more that yet another fool who has jumped on the bandwagon of..'OH NO! BRAM HAS SOLD OUT AND HE's NOW WORKING WITH THE MPAA TO GET US ALL ARRESTED!' crowd.

Did you actually read what I said to you already?

The logistics of the whole dumb monitoring users plan is completely and UTTERLY UNWORKABLE!

You would need more computer power than google owns to do a task like that.

Get an education please...!

You like to be so condescending and smug. that is fine. there are al kinds in the world. however it helps if you have something to be smug about. e.g.,. you posess facts that others do not or you know some secret that you are boasting about to people who do not know it. that would apply and then you would at least qualify for your smug attitude.

However you know nothing it seems and yet you still harp on about the impending doom of all us utorrent users!!!

Do you know ?ANYTHING about networks? anything about computing in general?

If you do then you have to understand just what an impossible task it would be to monitors utorrent users full stop. Do you not think that the userbase by now would have noticed? It isn't difficult to fire up a packet scanner/snooped and watch what is going from where to where even when it is a torrent client and has traffic from, all places. I could do it right now. Just have one torrent with no interest in it or just a little, to reduce the 'noise' of other users, then read every packet of data that goes out and in. There would be one IP that would be so obvious in that it would not be downloading, it would be in built into the program and sending data back to the same ip block and that data would not resemble torrent data.

Even you could have worked that out surely?

So, ahem keep NOT using utorrent if you prefer resource hogging crudware like azureus and let us normally sane and not paranoiac folks get on with doing things the easy way.

But ignoring all I just said, the most important in my mind was my question, which I now repeat:

PLEASE...give us all some links to forums, news releases, discussions etc where it is shown , no proven, or at least a very strong argument(unlike yours right?!) to show that utorrent is monitored.

We will await your evidence.

: )
