Sandboxie is a more fully featured realisation of this idea, and the free version is only nagware rather than crippleware. Moreso Truecrypt is a painstakingly robust, free & open source encryption program that can create containers of unlimited size and also can do full disk encryption.

I have to agree with Roger, Sanboxie is much better and safer alternative.

You can even run explorer.exe in the sandbox plus you get a right click

context menu option.

If you use only the free version then , after the trial which is 30 days

you will have to contend with a 5 second reminder from Sandboxie.
