Hi Roberto http://vsing.890m.com/smf/Smileys/default/icon_wave.gif

It looks like you are not knowledgeable about how to use an ISO file.
Just use the executable and that will work fine for you.

Hi Snorg. LOL You know I only keep an eye on these posts. Unless the article specifically intrigues me, I just keep an eye on the posts. Thanks for the heads up.

Installing Windows XP SP3? Read This First
Microsoft said I should install the SP3 to keep everything current on my HP Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I installed it less than a week ago, and it crashed my computer. It could not boot up the OS. While in Safe Mode said it would keep my data and restore my OS to its original condition. It deleted every document, every photo, every receipt that I had kept in the past 6 months. The hard work that I've done has vanished, and cannot be replaced.
The original OS now on my computer will need to be updated, but I will not be able to update a number of programs since Microsoft is not updating them any more. I shall put a note on the edge of my monitor, DO NOT DOWNLOAD SP3! Hope most people do not have to go through my experience.

Be careful ! I downloaded SP3 on my Compaq SR2037X--tried to restart it for 3 hours with no luck--finally did a full recovery and spent all the next day reloading my stuff.
I forgot the old axiom :"If it works don't fix it."

Having had my fair share of problems with updates and hotfixes with MSFT, this time I slipstreamed the IE7 and WMP11 and SP3 on 1 disk, wiped the drive and reinstalled Windows, everything is working great except for the IE7 is having a small problem with opening link in my E-Mails, not all the time but enough to be a bother, and getting into this site has been much easier since

Hey Everyone !!

Now, I know allot of you are having problems with the installation

of SP3 but, if you follow the advice of

Woody@AskWoody.com .

You would probably know NOT to install right away.

At least not until Woody gets clear indication that it is safe to do so.

For the ones that still insists on going ahead with this install

PLZ, PLZ, PLZ . DO A BACK UP OF YOUR PC.

This could be done by backing up valuable data or pictures or

ALL of your installers for the programs that you need on a daily basis.

Backing up on CD or DVD or even on a OFFSITE back-up server.

A new back-up service is being offred by ADrive. It is still in Beta but,

is offering 50 GIGs of free online storage. Find it here A Drive

Another option would be to get a FREE copy of Acronis True Image 8.0 Personal.

Piyushsingh put up a link to this very program yesterday.

I will again put it up for you to take advantage of.

Acronis True Image 8.0 Personal

You will have to register but, only your name and e-mail to receive to your

serial number in order to activate your personal copy.

You know the motto of a successful business:

Location , Location , Location.

Well, it also holds true for PCs with valuable data

but, the motto should be

Back-up , Back-up , Back-up.

FLASHORN.

Patience is life.

SP3 would not install until I removed System Mechanic 7. I kept getting an iolo dll error.
It worked fine after SM7 removal.

:^0 Absolutely correct, and I sort of apologize to the thread for being somewhat flippant, LOL.

On a serious note, after reading Steve Bass's column, I decided to hold off on SP3 for awhile, even more so after seeing about some of the difficulties other posters above have experienced.

Re: Installing Windows XP SP3? Read This First
I just installed Service Pack 3 on my Windows XP Professional laptop and it works like the same but a little faster than before. I remember that when I got this old computer I couldn't update windows at all. Then a computer expert reinstalled windows from home edition to professional but anyway, it seem to work just like it did before I installed XP SP3.
