Missouri Woman Charged in 'cyber-bully' Case
I followed this thing quite closely from the git go. After the local authorities said there was nothing they could charge her with, that is when the ugliness started. In my opinion, after the locals failed to charge her, yes the town should have taken action and made her life a living Hell to the point, she would have had to leave ( run her sorry carcass out). At the least, they should have confiscated all her computers, cut off internet access, and forever banned her from ever owning a computer or accessing the internet. Everytime I hear that story it makes my blood boil. That poor kid and her family will not get the Justice they deserve. Personally, I would like to see that wench do a minimum of 30 years. coastie65

... And after she does her 30 years, sue the ass off of her so that she never owns another cent that she earns. The planet is already overpopulated... We really don't need scum like her using up resources. She is the worst type of criminal... Namely, one who genuinely thinks she didn't do anything wrong. How stupid can one get?

Re: Missouri Woman Charged in 'Cyber-bully' Case
This is ridiculous. I simply can not believe it. Talk about a hunt! Geez.

The girl, sad tho her story is, had the right to turn her PC off at any point in time. Her mother, Ms. Righteous, talks about parents watching what their kids are doing online--well where was she?? Why wasn't she telling her daughter 'turn it off, there are mean vicious people in the world and you have to learn to ignore them. Let's go get a pizza/movie/new shirt/book...anything!

There is an old saying 'sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me' and it is still applicable today if we'd only use some common sense (something that is obviously lacking in current times.)

And that was a 'w i t -c h hunt' but this stupid page doesn't recognize the word.....see if it cancels it out again--puritans....

I agree with both mcbarker and coastie65. I've never understood how any adult can help their child hurt another's.
Kids need to gain interpersonal social skills through working out these stupid name calling problems among themselves as peers. Look at the assault in Florida? How could her mother have found any reason in teaching her child to destroy another girl's self esteem and self image to the point she committed suicide? It was like an online kill and destroy mission. I send my heart to the family of the victim and also to the Drew girl who need's to be helped to heal through this cruelty and realize this was wrong. You never know how fragile someone is when this stuff is being done, especially young girls. I do not consider this a witchhunt seeing as the witch doesn't deny her handy work. How can anyone who even knew that 13 year old child, never mind worked to destroy her, not have sorry feelings over what has happened. How tragic, throw the book at her!!!

Re: Missouri Woman Charged in 'Cyber-bully' Case
Here in the State of Virginia and the County of Henrico, that woman would have been charged with involutary manslaughter at the very least, as she was indirectly responsible for that girls death and in all likelyhood, she would have been convicted. Granted, she may have only ended up doing 5 years behind bars, which is nowhere near enough, at least the local authorities would have brought some action. mcbarker had it right. Once her sentence is done then Civil Action should be taken. Whatever it takes to make sure she has a lifetime to think about what she has done as that is about how long her punishment should last. There is nothing puritanical about this. This type of activity should not be tolerated, and a message needs to be sent to that effect. Social sites should be fun, and anyone abusing these sites with that type of activity should be found and prosecuted. In my opinion, the site may well be equally culpable. When the flaming started, the monitors ( if in fact there are any ) should have immediately put a stop to it and not let it continue and removed the post. It is a shame that you've got an Adult woman that shows less maturity than my 14 year old nephew. coastie65

You had trouble posting the word witch? That was odd. Or did you use the B word? Let me know if you think there's a problem with our forums.

Re: Missouri Woman Charged in 'Cyber-bully' Case
Hi Charley and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

Okay, I did two quick tests. Test #1 was submitted directly within the forum and Test #2 was done from the comment section of the article. In both tests, I was able to type the word "witch." It may have been a fluke in the system at the time but, if you could, please try both tests and see if you can type "witch."

Missouri Woman Charged in 'Cyber-bully' Case
"After approximately four weeks of flirtatious communications between Josh Evans and Meier, Drew and her co-conspirators broke off the relationship," the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California said in a statement. "Within an hour Meier hanged herself in her room. She died the next day"

As sick and twisted as this adult person is, I do not think she can be charged with murder. And where were the parents of this girl? Seems she would of killed herself if this happened in real life? So her CYBER boyfriend broke up with her and she hung herself???? Self esteem issues anyone?? PARENTS, PARENTS, PARENTS, or maybe a chemical imbalance. But what's the criminal act?
Pretending your someone else on line? Please arrest all the gamers now............

Re: Missouri Woman Charged in 'Cyber-bully' Case
Comparing the type of role playing that wench did with online gamers is apples and oranges. There is no comparison. Nice quote, but you missed the parting shot, " the world would better off without you" after which she went to her room and hung herself. That also tells me that the computer was in the family room or another "public" room where she could be monitored not in her bedroom. As I stated earlier, that woman would have been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter at the very least down here and yes it is justifiable. The woman was INDIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for that girls death and does warrant a charge of invountary manslaughter. That wench was also aware of the meds that girl was on for ADD and Depression. She deserves every single day she can get behind bars and a big fat civil suit to follow. In fact, in my opinion the Civil Suit should extend to MySpace as well, for not having proper monitoring. As you can tell, this really makes my blood boil, and there is no defense of that woman's actions. coastie65
