Re: Which antivirus will you recommend?
I've been using NOD32 for the past two years, and have been very happy with it. It has caught stuff trying to sneak onto my system from shady websites and through email, and it doesn't slow my system down noticeably, even when doing its scheduled daily scan.

Re: Which antivirus will you recommend?
Hi silentcon and welcome to the forum community. I personally was using AVG 7.5 free. When it went to 8.0, i wasn't real happy with it so went to Avast. So far I am pretty happy with avast. You will probably get a wide variety of opinions, so it will ultimately be your decision. coastie65

Re: Which antivirus will you recommend?
Hi SilentCon and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

I would like to tell you what I tell a lot of people with similar question. I do not believe NOD32 is free; however both AVG and Avast Home Edition are free. You are going to get varying opinions about which application is best and why but there is absolutely no better judge of what works best for you than hands on experience.

Download AVG and Avast. First install one of the two applications and see if you get the kind of coverage protection, and usability you expect. If you do not like that application, switch to the other one. If neither AVG nor Avast meet your needs, download and install NOD32 and try that out for size. In addition to this, please refer to the main Privacy & Security Community and look at the varied Discussions related to these and many other security applications.

Re: Which antivirus will you recommend?

http://forums.pcworld.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif Hi :

Might want to check out the testing done by the INDEPENDENT RESEARCHERS at

http://www.av-comparatives.org/ ; in their latest Nov 07 "Retrospective/ProActive" testing,

NOD32 had 71%, Avast 37% & AVG 25% . Would be wise to check the quality of their

Support at each product's Online Support Forum ; IF you do decide on NOD32, you

definitely should check their Online Support Forums at

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 for the best way to configure the

product ( talking about "Blackspears" recommendations ) .

Re: Which antivirus will you recommend?
MPH is correct... NOD32 is not free. It costs $27.99 for an annual update subscription. If you want to try it, you can download a 30 day free trial from the ESET website

I also used to use AVG free antivirus for my laptop since I only went online with it for program updates, but it did miss a virus once, at which point, I replaced it with NOD32. I've tried Avast, but wasn't overly impressed with it. I found it to be slow when scanning, and got a couple of false positives. The upside is that it was free, and didn't had a huge impact on the speed of my system.

Hmm... can't seem to create hyperlinks on the forum today.

Hi MCBarker. I corrected your hyperlink situation. I noticed that you were using the html version of hyperlinking. Click on Edit within your post and see what I did to get the hyperlink to work.

Re: Which antivirus will you recommend?
I've use Kaspersky for about a year.,and I've never had any problems with it. But I'm guessing you aren't itching to plunk down so odd $70 on an AV program so I'd recommend NOD-32.

Re: Which antivirus will you recommend?

Hey silentcon!!

Welcome to PCWorld Community!

If you are looking for a "Pay For" AntiVirus then I would certainly recommend

NOD32.

If you would like a Free one then my recommendation would have to be

AntiVir Avira .

You might want to take a look at this site Gizmo's Tech Sopport Alert .

There , you will be able to review All of the available Security Products offered on the net.

be it Free or Pay For

Gizmo also reviews all of his posted apps. so. all you have to do is read and make your mind up

on which application you would like to try.

FLASHORN.

Re: Which antivirus will you recommend?
If you're looking for free, a lot of people here at PCWorld like AVG.

However, I would also like to suggest Trend MicroAntiVirus. It is not free but it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, either. I just recently renewed my subscription to TMAV which now comes with AntiSpyware too. About a week ago I was looking for something on the web and it started scanning for viruses. So it has real, on the fly, protection for viruses, trojans, and anything else you can throw at it! :0 B-)
