The documents you were linked to have the answer you are looking for. We haven't removed the feature, but we did remove the box from the red site header. A lot of people confused it with our site search, and were trying to put words into it. They would, of course, get frustrated when it didn't work.

I know that it's been frustrating for many (I answer this question at least 20 times each month) and there has been discussion of finding a new home for this box on our site. But currently, the only way to access them is to type the entire URL into the address bar of your browser.
