Looking to Buy Dell Inspiron 530 - Are the Specifications Enough to Edit Videos

im looking into buying a new computer. One that i really like is the dell inspiron 530. With it i am going to get an Intel® Celeron ® Processor 440 (2.00GHz, 800 FSB) , 3gb of ram, and 250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive, and stick to windows xp. Im not a gamer but am looking to edit videos and do all that sort of stuff. is 3 gb of ram and a 250 gb hardrive plenty?

Are you going to do more than just edit videos? I'm thinking your going to want a more beefy processor, or a Dual Core. You may want to looking into getting something larger than a 250 gig hard drive. You could do 2X250 or you go find a machine with 500 GB.

the processor is absolute crap if your going to have 3 gigs of ram. Get at least a dual core, or else theres no need for 3gigs of ram.

Hi Qtrbck and welcome to the forum. As has been mentioned you would definately need a different processor. That thing will support a C2D 1066 Mhz processor. The second thing is the graphics, you can get an 8600GT as an option. It has a 300w PSU, which is problematic with that video card, as it requires a minimum of 350w. I didn't see any options for a larger PSU and I don't know if that PSU has proprietary wiring or not. A larger HDD would be nice, I noticed they had an option for 500 Gb. I don't know what your budget is, but I have the feeling I may have surpassed it. I didn't check the price for that configuration. coastie65

hi Qrtrbck12

You havent specified what type of video editing you are going to do - i mean is it the animation stuff type or just video editing , format conversion and movie maker type stuff.

In both cases you need a good processor while a good graphics card is need in case of rendering animated videos. If only video editing is concerned , all you need is a powerful processor, ram isnt a major factor for video editing . A good processor with 1 gig ram will outperform a low end processor with 3 gigs ram as far as videos editing is concerned.

Hey Qtrbck, In short the conroe is considered the best C2D. With that choice I would go with the E2200. coastie

hey qrtrbck12

e2200 is not a conroe , you may have mistyped.

out of above four , e4600 is better.
