Well, Duh! Vista is completely new which means "We as programmers have to develop new code and program structure to develop applications for a new OS." People don't want to change their styles.

How hard is that to figure out?

Nope, throw a bomb in Vista, haul away the debris, pour a new solid foundation and build a brand new building. Anything less is just a waste of time, and customer patience. Let XP bridge the gap.

Don't forget they are making people whose programs use a driver pay for driver signing. I finally found a program that allows me to use my IP Filter in Vista, at the cost of having to turn off ALL driver signing verification. (After MS turned off previous methods through hotfixes)
For new hardware, Vista is actually a better OS once you go through the tedious process of securing yourself from Microsoft. Unfortunately, for mediocre hardware like the laptop I bought that had it, it totally sucks. I had to reload XP on it and that was not fun when it was built for Vista.
Sorry Microsoft, you screwed the pooch. You went too far, and there is backlash.
The customer is ALWAYS right, and THIS is why.
Cry the whole way to the bank and then you might want to start listening when your accountant meets you there.

Some guy came out with a program designed to get around the M$ driver signing BS and M$ went to Verisign and had his security certifiate revoked
Here's a link to an artical I just Googled but I am sure there is a better one out there

No, what the PCW Business editors did was take the results of a survey and generate two articles with misleading headlines. What the specifics in the article finally said, was that programers, like anyone, want to generate a product with the widest range of use. That means in the Windows world that it runs on Vista and XP. And, oh by the way Windows 2000, Server 2003 and 2008 as well. Makes perfect sense to me.

It's rather like when the US automobile fleet was converted from leaded fuel to unleaded. For years, the two pumps were side by side. No gasoline maker was going to quite making leaded gasoline with a hundred million potential customers out there. Neither will a programer. Vista and XP will exist side by side, along with a small population of Windows 2000 for years to come. Some companies, like mine who stayed with 2000 are now leapfrogging over XP to go with Vista.

I recently had a problem with Office 2000 on my machine at work and the IT group was all set to install Office 2007 untily the discovered it wouldn't run on 2000, so they installed Office 2003 instead. In August, they will start installing Vista Enterprise and Office 2007. Ironically, I already use Vista and Office 2007 and will retire at the end of July.
