Hi LarryT and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

First some housekeeping. I have changed your Discussion title to give a clearer indication of your question. For future reference, please be as descriptive as possible in both the heading of your Discussion as well as the post itself. Also, I have moved this Discussion from the PCWorld Web Site Community into the Answer Line Community.

Now, I have some questions for you:

  • From where exactly did you download this application? (What is the url?)

  • Was the download of Avast successful?

  • What browser are you using?

  • Did you click on any of the pop up ads?

  • What security applications do you have beside Avast?

Re: Receiving Pop Up Ads When Attempting to Download Avast

http://forums.pcworld.com/images/emoticons/grin.gif Hi :

As a Volunteer "Helper" on the Avast Online Support Forums, the Developers have

reported a COUNTERFEIT Site trying to pretend to be the "real" thing; the "real"

product does not act that way . Recommend you uninstall whatever you got

( it MAY just be a corrupted installation ), then go to

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html .

IF you did get the "counterfeit" product, I recomend you use the FREE "RogueRemover"

from http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php .

could use the assistance of Volunteer Experts to guide you in their removal !?

Recommend either the Forums whare you got the "RogueRemover"

OR the Forums at http://aumha.net , which are staffed by Volunteer "Microsoft
