I'm so glad to see this. Not necessarily because it is Dell. But I have been subjected to this sort of cr@p from several different corporations. Maybe after a few more of them get sued in a very public way for fraud they might think twice about engaging in this sort of shabby maltreatment of their customers.

Re: Court Finds Dell Guilty of Fraud

Wow, so many people thought that Dell was so above everybody else... Turns out that they did some unspeakable things, huh? "Waiting as long as 1 year for a 1 day turnaround"....??? WTF?

I wonder if the Court's decision would extend to all the other States as well.

I work for a server manufacturer company and Dell is one of our competitors. They try to screw us over by giving our customers servers at below cost and sometimes even at no cost. Not very smart when you they are in a financial sh*t hole. I hope those customers that fell for the trap are pulling their teeth out while dealing with Dell's outstanding customer service.

Hi TimL,

I really had no idea that Dell could do such things, I'm naive, I guess. That's truly a bad practice, for any and all companies, IMHO.

TLH2008,
Just send a letter to your state's attorney general, it's their job to protect you and if they're worth their salt, they'll do something - if not, it's up to you and your fellow voters to find a good one!

Re: Court Finds Dell Guilty of Fraud
I agree, contact your state's Attorney Generals office. You may want to reference that court ruling and say that you have been likewise affected. The fact that they have now been found guilty of this in NY, makes a stronger case in the other state. If they did it in NY, they did it in all 50. NY and Florida generally are the toughest in these types of cases, probably because they have more active consumer groups also.

I was withholding judgement, but there was such a strong animus among some past Dell users about the treatment they had received, that while I didn't know if there was any fire, there sure was a lot of smoke. Now we know, there was fire as well.

As for Dell's no comment, how could one comment on such a damning case. Now that this decision is in, look for the next shoe to drop, the civil class action case. I can almost see the TV commercials now.

Its so hard to believe that when you trust a company to be like your best friend they turn around and stab you right in the back my mother had dell laptop and the laptop kept on breaking down on her and it was brand new it would cost her more then what she bought in the first place to repair it. my mom needed that laptop to do her community college homework, tupperware and avon orders. what the heck is wrong with everyone these days.

Gee, I hate to say this, but I have a Dell laptop and had a problem with the AC cord in the first 4 months and I actually had a serviceman come to the house to check it out! I didn't wait forever either. Now I hope this continues! I have an extended four year service contract.........

On Tue May 27 18:22:36 PDT 2008, bratasch says: "We need more Attorney generals like those!"

For the record, the plural of Attorney General is "Attorney's General". And yes - we need more of them who will fight for the common folk. I just hope that the amount of restitution to Dell's customers will be higher than what the state of New York will receive from Dell's deceptive profits. Those profits were earned from the customers who purchased Dell's products, and it is they who deserve the refund - not the State of New York. My bet is that the State will fare much better. In cases such as this, they usually do - and the consumer effectively gets screwed twice. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Hi Chuck and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

Okay, this forum is not a double for an English class; however, since you wanted to correct the use of Attorney Generals, let's make sure we are all on the same page. Bratasch was correct The plural for Attorney General is Attorney Generals. Actually, the phrase Attorney General is a proper noun. Attorney Generals, although not really used, would be considered a proper plural noun.

In your use, Attorney's General would signify possession such as David's cat or Jennifer's hat.

Again, without getting into a heated debate regarding grammar, this was just to point out that Bratasch was correct.
