Re: The 100 Best Products of 2008
Perhaps you missed the links in the middle of the first page. Everything on the list of 100 was nominated, voted on, and ranked by PC World editors. We took the top user voted product in each category, and showed them off here. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,146165/article.html

IIRC, reader votes are also highlighted in the print issue as well.

Hi Kevin,

As I explained earlier, we do our list in the middle of the year due to the historical timing of our (now defunct) World Class Awards.

Re: The 100 Best Products of 2008
Looks like there's some confusion here about our Best Products of 2008 story. As the editor of the story, let me explain a couple of things:

First, our list isn't meant to be a ranking of the best products released during 2008 -- if it were, we would wait until the end of the year to do it, obviously. I can see how the title of the feature could have suggested otherwise.

The story is a ranking of the tech products that have done the most good for the most people since we did this ranking 12 months ago. The products that were the most fun, offered the most productivity gain, or the ones that made everyday stuff easier. People across America have been digging on the utility of their iPhones during the last year, so it made the list. Some people stayed in better contact with friends using Facebook. It makes the list. Hulu simply works, and is a harbinger of what TV will be like in the future. It makes the list. And so on.

Anyway, I hope this helps and thanks for reading. -Mark

The 100 Best Products of 2008
Just a couple of observations...
First. It is May (or maybe June) folks. That means that this article was started in Feb or Mar. How in the name of heck can you purport to claim "The 100 Best Products of 2008" when the year is barely begun?

Second. Best product of the year... sure if you live in the US.

you do realise you are late for April Fools Day? - this article will mark the day that PCWorld Magazine sunk to levels of mediocrity hitherto reserved for the National Enquirer

Re: The 100 Best Products of 2008
Again (and for the third time in this thread), we produce the awards mid-year because we used to give out actual awards at a PC World tradeshow at this time of the year. We no longer do the tradeshow, but we still give out the awards.

Re: The 100 Best Products of 2008
Tradition is your best excuse for this absurdity? Wow. Amazing that no one has thought about moving the Best of 2008 to the December issue. PC World has just jumped the shark. How about retitling this simply "Our favorites so far" and take the year out of the title?

And where in the title does it say "best American-only products"?

The 100 Best Products of 2008
Oh my, typical American arrogance.... I was excited to think I would be able to access high-quality videoat Hulu... Nope, just for the Americans. Do you all really think you're the only ones in the world?? Damn, that p*sses me off. Not at the site, who can choose whomever they like to access their site, but to PCW for misleading us, yet again, in thinking they are representing us all, when in reality they represent American readers only. Even a disclaimer, before I go rushing off to waste time and energy, that the sites you so blithely recommend are US only would be appreciated. But no.... sigh I haven't even looked at the rest of the list...
Should I bother?
