The expose function can be found in My Expose' a freeware program that does it very easily and works concurrently with 3-d desktop programs such as Yod'm 3-D desktop!

Re: 18 Features Windows Should Have (but Doesn't)
1: useless if you have workspaces. Plus F3 is bad system shortcut (too simple = overrides app's use)
2: BeOS had for a decade
3: VNC (s)ftp ( whatever ftp client you want) = $0
4: VNC again = $0
5: cron tar/zip/... = $0
6: cdrecord ? (even for win32: http://smithii.com/cdrtools ) = $0
7: use real ones < $3
8: you're 2 years late on hypeness. besides a podcast is just an xml file mp3 (which means you must search the mp3 url in the xml file if you don't have a podcast client instead of just clicking the mp3 url directly, stupid). plain mp3 = $0 - $(time wastes on browsing the xml)
9: that's the only good one so far (but even in ubuntu it doesn't always work).
10: pure eye candy cpu waster = useless = $0
11: "uncluttered" ? like everything else it becomes cluttered when you use it too much. Just put your desktop icons at the bottom = $0
12: Wow, great. BeOS put TGA files in home/ on PrtScrn 10 years ago...
13: I'd rather have the full wall that way. keyboard shortcuts command line.
14: set icon size to max, make window 1 icon large, and scroll down. $0
15: BeOS had the 0-config poorman in 10 years ago. you can use apache on win $0
16: lol!
17: totally biased. I could say just use the terminal, everything has the same font in the terminal, it's much simpler.
18: BeOS almost has that, apps have resources, they can be removed by trashing the folder usually.

To sum up windows misses what BeOS had 10 years ago and some Free software. What a news ;)

Re: 18 Features Windows Should Have (but Doesn't)

Lame...lamer...lamest...ho-hum another "Why PC World hates Microsoft" piece of drivel. Mostly features that actually DO exist, in one form or the other, but frankly, most of it is just about non-features anyway. PC World has spent inumerable hours and article space blasting Vista for being "too big...too slow", so now, they want to complain because Vista does not have ENOUGH clutter-junk! "Ya can't have it both ways fellers!"

I know that MS bashing is kind of a favorite sport and all that, but it is disturbing, because there actually are rubes that take this sorry excuse for an "article" seriously! Frankly, if you can not fill your magazine space with relevant info (and increasingly, it is apparent that PC World can not), then just cut back! Believe it or not, some folks actually want timely, informative, and above all USEFUL content!

Actually Pete, you can its called coding for efficiency the fact that efficient programming happens to often result in security benefits is just a nice little side effect from not making things bloated beyond all reason. Compiz (granted, when it works) uses a fraction of the resources of Aero and does a whole lot more than Aero does.

Thank you to everyone who contributed so many great comments and criticisms to this story. Personally, I don't take sides in the OS wars, but I do appreciate the passion that many of you feel about your operating systems of choice. My goal in writing this story was not to denigrate Windows--which I believe gets an unfair rap for its position at the top of the OS food chain--but to show how many of the cool OS features found in Mac OS and Linux can be added to Windows easily. I'm especially grateful to those of you who contributed additional software choices to accomplish that end. Thank you all.

This is obviously biased toward Mac OS X. I thought journalism was supposed to be unbiased?

Toys. I thought this article would contain much-needed items. Not so. Someone hard up for an article to write grabbed a bunch of unimportant utilities from Mac and Linux and said they were desperately needed by Windows. What a load of hooey.
