What is the best Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Utility?

I am looking for a Utility such as Virus and Spyware Scanner, but AVG and the Free downloads aren't protecting my computer very much and I cannot afford a decent software. What free downloadable software would be good in order to take care of this problem? ?:|

Re: What is the best Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware Utility?

:D Hi :

As far as good & FREE antivirus and antispyware/antitrojan programs are concerned, I use Avast Antivirus

Home Edition ( http://www.avast.com ), the FREE Version of "SUPERAntiSpyware" from

http://www.superantispyware.com AND "SpywareBlaster" from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com .

You MAY want to look into possibly using "Win Patrol" !?

Try ESET NOD or Trend Micro's antivirus!

Works well to me..

going the cheap way, avg free for me, and windows defender, but i highly recommend upgrading to kaspersky (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,139990/article.html) and spyware doctor (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,136191/article.html) they have the highest rankings from pcworld.com

While AVG doesnt do much, Avast does, it has 6 realtime protection shields active that guards against viruses and some spyware, as for antispyware i recommend superantispyware since it does one pretty damn good of a job at protecting your computer

I like Avira AntiVir Personal. That and SpyBot SD running in the background all the time seem to be keeping me safe.

Although I see that this discussion has already been answered by SpiritWind - however, I also noted that you did not want to spend money for something that you can set up for yourself and remain completely out of the line of fire - and ward off all of the perils that go with e-mail. And this is something that comes standard with Windows Me, Windows XP (all flavors) and you can dispense with Microsoft's Windows Defender too!

Take the time to log onto: http:
walt.ivey.googlepages.com/fearnoevil and read the article. I can attest to the fact that setting up your Windows XP E-Mail in Outlook Express and configuring the set up with Message Rules - will be like constructing a steel-reinforced concrete vault that will be totally safe and I can provide you with backup articles to show you how you can read any e-mail message and check Attachments for baddies without ever opening the envelope!
